James Wood Out Against Brewers
James Wood will head to the bench for Sunday's series finale on the road in Milwaukee versus Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. Alex Call draws into the starting lineup in left field and will hit second against Peralta. The Nats will give Wood a day off heading into next week's All-Star break after he started in 174 straight games since joining the big-league roster. It makes sense, as the 22-year-old left-handed slugger will take part in the Home Run Derby and the All-Star game this coming week. The former second-rounder is one of the best young hitters in the game, but he's also gone hitless in his last three games and is batting .244 (10-for-41) with two home runs, five RBI, seven runs and a steal in 11 games in the month of July. Call has only faced Peralta once in his career and has only two homers in 175 at-bats in 2025.
