Eloy Jimenez Signs Minor-League Deal With Blue Jays
Eloy Jimenez, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. Jimenez had been available since the Tampa Bay Rays released him from a minor-league deal on July 11. He hit .278/.335/.397 with three home runs in 40 games with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate in Durham, and he spent time on the injured list twice. Injuries have consistently been an issue for the 28-year-old Jimenez since he debuted in 2019 as a highly touted prospect with the White Sox. As a rookie, he played in 122 games and swatted 31 homers, both of which remain career highs. Also a former Baltimore Oriole, Jimenez is a lifetime .269/.318/.462 hitter with 95 homers over 534 games and 2,126 plate appearances. The first-place Blue Jays don't have an obvious need for Jimenez on their roster, so it's unlikely he'll make an impact in the majors this year.
