White Sox Place Miguel Vargas on Injured List With Hand Sprain
Miguel Vargas (hand) on the 10-day injured list with a left-hand sprain and recalled rookie first baseman Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. With Vargas heading to the IL, Curtis Mead will make the start at third in Friday's contest against the visiting New York Yankees and will bat fifth against left-hander Carlos Rodon. Vargas injured his hand in Thursday night's loss to New York when he was involved in a collision at first base. With Chicago's season practically already over, fantasy managers shouldn't be holding out hope that the 25-year-old will return before the end of the season. The Cuban infielder does have a career-high 14 home runs in his first full season on the South Side, but he's also hit a pedestrian .234/.315/.404 with 52 RBI, 69 runs and four steals in 121 games.
