JoJo Romero Remains in Closer Committee in St. Louis
JoJo Romero will remain in a closer committee in St. Louis after the team traded away closer Ryan Helsley to the New York Mets at last week's deadline. Romero should probably be considered the favorite for save chances the rest of the way -- he has two saves in the last three days for the Red Birds -- especially since he's the only lefty arm in the bullpen after Steven Matz was traded. In addition to Romero, Riley O'Brien and Kyle Leahy are the other candidates to see save chances for the Cardinals in the final two months of the season. The 28-year-old Romero came on to preserve the win in Monday's 3-2 victory over the Dodgers, striking out one in a scoreless inning while also giving up a hit and a walk. Romero hasn't been perfect in 2025, but he has 16 holds and now is the favorite for saves in a committee approach.
