Red Sox Send Jhostynxon Garcia Back to Minors
Jhostynxon Garcia to Triple-A Worcester on Friday and recalled infielder Nick Sogard from Worcester in a corresponding move, according to Chris Cotillo of Mass Live. The BoSox called up Nixon, nicknamed The Password, on Aug. 22, but he did very little in his limited time in the big leagues, going 1-for-7 at the plate with a double and five strikeouts. The club's third-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will go back to the farm for now, but there's a good chance he'll be brough back up to the big leagues for the stretch run when MLB rosters expand on Monday, Sept. 1. The 22-year-old Venezuelan has hit a strong .289/.363/.512 in 99 games with Worcester and Double-A Portland this year with 20 homers, 73 RBI and six steals and has some of the best raw power in Boston's system.
