Reynaldo Lopez Likely Done for Season
Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) will likely miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, manager Brian Snitker told reporters on Thursday. Lopez made his lone start of the year on March 28 and allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks in a 4-3 loss to the San Diego Padres. He went on the injured list with shoulder inflammation after that and had to undergo arthroscopic surgery. The 31-year-old hasn't made enough progress since then to return in what will go down as a lost season for him and the injury-ravaged Braves, who will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Lopez helped the Braves to the postseason in 2024 when he put up a sparkling 1.99 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 148:42 K:BB in 135 2/3 innings. He battled shoulder and forearm issues last year, however, so the Braves will have to decide this offseason if he's better off as a reliever. Lopez has come out of the bullpen 123 times in 268 appearances since he debuted with the Washington Nationals in 2016.
