James Wood Snaps 21-Game Home Run Drought
James Wood belted his first home run since July 9 to end a 21-game drought in a 4-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. Wood led the game off with a 385-foot homer against left-hander Carson Whisenhunt and later doubled to finish 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. The 22-year-old made his first All-Star appearance and participated in the Home Run Derby last month, but his production over the past few weeks has been abysmal. During his 21-game dry spell, he went a shocking 9-for-80 (.113) with two RBI and 38 strikeouts against nine walks. While Wood did strike out three more times on Saturday, it's encouraging that his power stroke finally came back. Despite his month-long tailspin, Wood is still slashing a more-than-respectable .256/.357/.484 with 25 homers, 73 RBI, 64 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases in 502 plate appearances in his first full season.
