Luis Gil Could Throw Off a Mound on Friday
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that right-hander Lui Gil (lat) could throw from a mound on Friday before the team's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, which would be the first time Gil has done so since late February. "Feeling really good," Boone said. Gi has been out all season to this point with a lat strain that he suffered in spring training, and there still isn't a firm timetable on his return. The 26-year-old needs a full spring training-like build-up, though, so he probably won't make his 2025 debut until at least late June. By that time, it will be difficult for the Dominican hurler to match his production from a year ago, when he won the American League Rookie of the Year award with a 16-8 record, 3.55 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 214 K's in 185 innings over 36 starts. Gil's season-long 4.36 xFIP and .237 BABIP already pointed to regression in 2025.
