Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said on Tuesday that quarterback Max Brosmer will step into the No. 2 role this week with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) "expected to have a full week of prep" as the team prepares to face the division-rival Detroit Lions in Week 9, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic. Veteran Carson Wentz will have season-ending left-shoulder surgery, so the Vikings are now left with two young, inexperienced signal-callers on their active roster. It's possible Minnesota could make a move to add a veteran QB before next Tuesday's trade deadline, but as long as he's over the high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2, McCarthy is expected to be the team's starting QB. Brosmer has appeared in three games in 2025, going 5-for-8 passing for 42 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He remains off the fantasy radar.--Keith Hernandez
