Shane Smith Strikes Out Five In Loss
Shane Smith struck out five batters in his loss to the Kansas City Royals on Monday evening. Smith allowed three runs across five innings of work. He allowed five hits and served up three walks. He allowed his first run in the fourth inning on a Maikel Garcia RBI double. Then in the fifth, Bobby Witt Jr. hit a double, which scored Kyle Isbel. The 25-year-old has continued to hold his own during his first taste of the major leagues. Through his first 37 1/3 innings at the MLB level, the right-hander has posted a solid 2.41 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP. He has struck out 31 batters but served up 15 high walks. Under the hood, he has generated a 28.3 percent whiff rate, which suggests his strikeout numbers could continue to climb. He remains a solid option in 15+ team formats given his strikeout upside.
