Colson Montgomery Returns Against Yankees
Colson Montgomery (side) is back at shortstop and is hitting cleanup for Game 2 of the series against the visiting New York Yankees and left-hander Carlos Rodon on Friday. A left-side injury kept Montgomery out of action for the last two games, but he'll return for the start of the weekend after also dealing with a similar issue last week. The 23-year-old former 22nd overall pick in 2021 has gone just 35-for-152 (.230) in his first 43 big-league games this year, but he's also produced 14 home runs and 37 RBI in 165 plate appearances as the team's shortstop of the future. Montgomery has homered in each of his last four games, but it will be tough to keep that impressive streak alive on Friday in a tough lefty-lefty matchup. In 44 trips to the plate against southpaws, Montgomery has hit .167 (7-for-42) with three homers and nine strikeouts.
