Cordarrelle Patterson 2024 Outlook: Likely Gadget Player With Limited Flex Appeal In Deep Leagues
6 months agoPittsburgh Steelers running back/wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson had one of the most surprising late-career breakouts in 2021. With the Atlanta Falcons, he posted 153 carries for 618 yards and six touchdowns and caught 52 passes for 548 yards and another five scores. His production yielded an RB9 finish in PPR leagues. However, his usage, productivity, and efficiency have declined over the last two years thanks to aging and injuries, so it's tough to expect him to be fantasy-relevant in 2024. Although his familiarity with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith helps, he's likely to be utilized primarily on special teams and as a gadget player on offense -- think Kadarius Toney. Patterson had little success as a pure wide receiver during his time with the Minnesota Vikings early in his career, so it'd be a surprise if he made an impact out wide despite the lack of depth in the Pittsburgh wide receiver room. Deep-league fantasy managers can take a flier on him late in drafts, but don't be surprised if he's one of the first players dropped when the first run of in-season waiver wire claims takes place. His best value is as a kick-returner, especially under the new kickoff rules.
