Josh Naylor Starting on the Bench Due to Injuries
Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor (shin, wrist) is a little banged up and will start on the bench for Tuesday's series opener against the visiting Baltimore Orioles, per MLB.com. Naylor was forced from Sunday's series finale early against the Washington Nationals after fouling a ball off his shin. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger is also dealing with wrist soreness. The good news is that X-rays on his shin came back negative, so Naylor is considered day-to-day and could be back as early as Wednesday's tilt against the O's. Miles Mastrobuoni will start at first on Tuesday for Seattle and will bat ninth versus Orioles right-hander Brandon Young. The Canadian native enters Tuesday's action hitting .253/.315/.372 with a .687 OPS, eight home runs, 32 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and 27 runs scored in 68 games across 296 plate appearances in his first full year with the team. Naylor has gone 12-for-48 (.250) with three of his eight home runs on the year in 12 games in June. Check back on Wednesday to see if he's back in the starting lineup.
