Oklahoma Starting Center Jake Maikkula to Miss Time with Knee Injury
Oklahoma center Jake Maikkula (knee) suffered a knee injury during Saturday's team scrimmage, according to George Stoia of Sooner Scoop. The Colorado native is entering the fifth season of his career and his second with the Sooners. He started 10 games at center a season ago and has 31 games of experience overall. Fortunately, Maikkula did not suffer a season-ending injury, but his timetable to return is to be determined. Last season, Oklahoma finished 13th in the SEC in rushing yards per game (118.5), so the loss of its "quarterback of the offensive line" isn't ideal. Western Kentucky and Virginia transfer Caleb Nitta will compete to fill in for him in his absence.
