Sam Leavitt Viewed as Day-to-Day with Undisclosed Injury
Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt (undisclosed) is being viewed as day-to-day after missing Saturday's blowout loss against Utah, according to head coach Kenny Dillingham. Leavitt was seen wearing a boot on his right foot, so he's likely dealing with some kind of foot or ankle injury. It sounds like the redshirt sophomore has an outside chance to play against No. 7 Texas Tech in Week 8, but Dillingham is not committing to anything regarding his status. "Status quo," Dillingham said. "We're going to find out more Tuesday, Wednesday. There's no gamesmanship here. This is just purely being honest." In five games this season, Leavitt has completed just over 63% of his passes for 1,039 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. He's added 281 yards and five end zone trips as a runner. If he can't play in the Big 12 matchup this weekend, Jeff Sims would be in line for another start.

Matt Rhule Denying Interest in Penn State Head Coaching Job
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has been quickly linked to the head coaching job at Penn State after the program fired James Franklin following a three-game Big Ten losing skid. Rhule was a Penn State linebacker from 1994 to 1997 and got his coaching career started as a volunteer assistant under Joe Paterno. However, Rhule shot down interest in a recent statement: "I'm not going to talk a lot about job openings when they come," Rhule said. "I'm not going to talk about my contract here... I absolutely love it here. I want to continue to take the steps needed to turn this place into a beast." In his 10th season as a collegiate head coach between tenures at Temple, Baylor, and Nebraska, Rhule has compiled a 64-57 record. He's viewed as a program builder thanks to his 26-8 combined record in his third season at each program. It remains to be seen if Rhule would take the Penn State job if offered, but he would not leave Nebraska until at least after the regular season concludes in late November.

Le'Veon Moss Not Believed to Have Suffered Season-Ending Injury
According to Pete Nakos of On3Sports, there is optimism from the Texas A&M program that running back Le'Veon Moss (ankle) did not suffer a season-ending injury in Saturday's win over Florida. The senior ball carrier suffered an ankle injury, but tests are ongoing to determine the severity. Moss is in his fourth season with the Aggies and has tallied 389 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 70 opportunities this year. If Moss has to miss time, Rueben Owens II, who has rushed for 327 yards and one touchdown, is capable of leading the team's backfield moving forward. The No. 4-ranked Aggies are slated to play at Arkansas this weekend before a showdown in Death Valley at LSU in Week 9.

Bill Belichick Says he's Committed to North Carolina
North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick says any reports of him looking for an exit from the university are "categorically false," according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. There have been rumors swirling that the two sides could be headed for separation after an abysmal start to the 2025 campaign, but both Belichick and the university have issued statements of commitment. Thamel reports that UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts was in attendance for Belichick's mid-week press conference on Monday, a sign of his commitment to the future NFL Hall of Fame coach. The Tar Heels are out to a 2-3 start, with their only wins coming against Charlotte and Richmond. This story is likely not done developing, and we won't know how it will play out until the season's end.

Penn State Fires Head Coach James Franklin After 10.5 Seasons
Penn State fired head coach James Franklin on Sunday after 10.5 seasons at the helm. Franklin had a 104-45 record for the university. Penn State is off to a dismal 3-3 start in 2025. Ranked No. 2 in most preseason polls, the Nittany Lions were expected to contend for a national championship. That dream took a hit after a double-overtime loss to Oregon at home in Week 5. Penn State suffered losses to winless UCLA in Week 6 and Northwestern in Week 7. This is the first time in college football history that a team has lost back-to-back games when favored by more than 20 points. The university bought out the remainder of Franklin's contract at an estimated $48.8 million. Cornerbacks coach Terry Smith will be the interim coach for the rest of the 2025 season.

Penn State QB Drew Allar Will Miss The Rest Of 2025 Season With Ankle Injury
Penn State senior quarterback Drew Allar will miss the rest of the 2025 season with an ankle injury suffered with two minutes left in the 22-21 loss to Northwestern on Saturday. This ends Allar's stellar career at Penn State. He finishes his career with 7,402 passing yards (fourth in school history), 61 touchdowns (3rd), 13 interceptions, and a 63.2% completion percentage. That is the highest in Penn State history. Allar was likely to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but elected to return to Penn State for a shot at a national championship. His goal will fall short, as the Nittany Lions enter Week 8 with a 3-3 record. Allar will be replaced at quarterback by redshirt freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer. Grunkemeyer has completed 9 of 13 passes in his career for 114 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

CJ Baxter to Miss Saturday's Game Against No. 6 Oklahoma
Texas running back CJ Baxter has officially been ruled out of Saturday's Red River Shootout against No. 6 Oklahoma in Dallas. Baxter hasn't played since he injured his hamstring against UTEP on September 13. Texas is expected to lean on Christian Clark tomorrow, along with Quintrevion Wisner, who just returned from a hamstring injury last week against Florida. Baxter had 24 carries for 110 yards early in this season before the injury. Wisner led the Longhorns in rushing last year, and if healthy, should be a big part of the Texas offense against the sixth-ranked Sooners.

Syracuse QB Steve Angeli Will Miss Significant Time
Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli will be out "for a long time," according to Syracuse head coach Fran Brown in a radio interview after the Orange's 34-21 win over Clemson. Angeli briefly exited the game in the first half, but was able to return until he stumbled on a quarterback keeper in the third quarter and fell without being hit. He was spotted on crutches on the sideline during the next Clemson possession. Angeli completed 18 of 31 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game. Redshirt sophomore Rickie Collins will take over for the Orange. Collins, a transfer from LSU, is 11 for 13 passing for 103 yards with a touchdown and an interception in his career. His first career touchdown was to Justyn Ross-Simmons to complete the same drive in which Angeli went down.

North Carolina's Caleb Hood Retiring from College Football
North Carolina running back Caleb Hood announced his decision to retire from college football on Friday, as reported by Inside Carolina. "After much thought and prayer and discussion with my family, I have decided to retire from football," Hood wrote on Instagram. "My journey at UNC has been special, and I appreciate my time here. I am excited to start the next chapter and will always take my memories of Carolina with me." It's unclear why Hood made this decision, but he began the 2025 season as the Tar Heel's starting running back. Overall, he tallied 114 rushing attempts for 515 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 24 receptions for 194 yards and one score in 31 career games.

Jeff Sims Likely to Start Against Utah
Arizona State quarterback Jeff Sims is expected to start for the Sun Devils on Saturday against Utah, as Heisman-hopeful Sam Leavitt (undisclosed) is listed as doubtful for Week 7. Leavitt has been dealing with an injury since the September 20 win over Baylor, and head coach Kenny Dillingham said he won't play, barring something miraculous. Between his time at Georgia Tech, Nebraska, and Arizona State, Sims has 26 starts under his belt. He's posted an 8-18 record as a starter behind over 6,300 yards of total offense, 44 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. It's not easy to play in Salt Lake City as the visitor, so this is a tough spot to call on the backup QB.

Syracuse QB Steve Angeli Will Miss Remainder of 2025 Season With Torn Achilles
Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli will miss the rest of the 2025 season with a torn Achilles suffered in the third quarter of Syracuse's 34-21 win at Clemson. Angeli is expected to file for and receive a medical redshirt, which would give him two college seasons of eligibility. Backup Rickie Collins Jr., a transfer from LSU, is expected to take over at quarterback for the Orange for the rest of the season. Angeli ends his 2025 season with 1,316 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and two interceptions. Angeli was the FBS leader in passing yards coming into the Clemson game. Collins has completed seven of his 14 passes this season for 99 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Sam Leavitt Not Expected to Play for Arizona State on Saturday
Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt (undisclosed) has been downgraded from probable to doubtful for Saturday's Big 12 matchup against Utah, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The redshirt sophomore is banged up following the bye week, and it appears the well-traveled veteran, Jeffs Sims, is in line for his first start for the Sun Devils this season. Sims spent three years at Georgia Tech and one year at Nebraska before transferring to Arizona State in 2024. Overall, he has tallied 4,914 passing yards, 1,464 rushing yards, and 42 total touchdowns in 36 career games. With Leavitt likely out of the lineup, Utah should be considered a heavier favorite to take home the victory in Week 7.

John Mateer Upgraded to Probable Ahead of Saturday's Red-River Shootout
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer (hand) was upgraded to probable on Thursday night's SEC injury report. Mateer missed Oklahoma's last game against Kent State because of hand surgery on September 17. Mateer's original timetable for a return was three to four weeks. He will return to action for Saturday's Red River Shootout in Dallas just 17 days after the surgery. The return of Mateer gives the Oklahoma offense more spark. He has completed 95 of 141 passes for 1,215 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. Mateer is also dangerous on the ground, rushing for 190 yards and five touchdowns on 43 attempts so far in 2025.
