Bobby Petrino Joining Bill Belichick as North Carolina's Offensive Coordinator
North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick is hiring longtime college football coach Bobby Petrino as the team's next offensive coordinator, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Petrino finished the 2025 season as Arkansas' interim head coach following the firing of Sam Pittman. He began his coaching career in 1983 and has worked as an offensive coordinator at 10 different stops, including Louisville, Auburn, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He's 137-78 as a head coach between stints with Louisville, Arkansas, Missouri State, and Western Kentucky. While Arkansas turned in a 2-10 record this season, its offense ranked inside the top five in the conference in total yards per game, passing yards per game, rushing yards per game, and points per game. Petrino brings a storied resume of offensive production with him to Chapel Hill, and he'll be tasked with getting the Tar Heels' offense off the ground after it was one of the worst units in the ACC under former OC Freddie Kitchens.

Tennessee, Missouri Potential Suitors for Josh Hoover
According to On3's Pete Nakos' sources, Tennessee and Missouri are potential schools to watch in the recruitment of TCU transfer quarterback Josh Hoover. Tennessee is preparing to lose starter Joey Aguilar, though the veteran has an outside shot of getting another year of collegiate eligibility. Missouri is losing Beau Pribula to the transfer portal, leaving freshman Matt Zollers as the only viable signal-caller on the roster for 2026. Hoover has played in 36 games over the last three seasons with the Horned Frogs, passing for over 9,600 yards, 71 touchdowns, and 33 interceptions. The 21-year-old is also linked to Indiana, depending on whether or not Fernando Mendoza declares for the 2026 NFL Draft. He was committed to Indiana under Tom Allen before flipping to TCU.

Darian Mensah Returning to Duke Next Season
Duke quarterback Darian Mensah will return to the program in 2026, according to On3's Pete Nakos. The 20-year-old led the Blue Devils to an ACC Championship as a redshirt sophomore while completing 67.1% of his passes for 3,646 yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Mensah transferred to Duke following a strong freshman season at Tulane. In just two seasons as a starter, he's totaled 54 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions. Mensah could be a hot prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft if he takes another step forward, and Duke could be a program to watch again in the wide-open ACC with him at the helm.

Josh Hoover Linked to Indiana in Transfer Portal
TCU quarterback Josh Hoover is set to enter the transfer portal, and Chris Hummer of 247 Sports and CBS says Indiana is a school to watch during his portal recruitment, according to his sources. Hoover has played in 36 games over the last three seasons with the Horned Frogs, passing for over 9,600 yards, 71 touchdowns, and 33 interceptions. He's mostly a traditional pocket passer, but he has rushed for eight scores in his career. The Hoosiers likely expect Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft at season's end, so the program has its eye on the next starting quarterback under the Curt Cignetti tenure. Hoover fits the bill of a win-now quarterback thanks to his experience and productivity, so the fit would make sense.

Arch Manning Agrees to Reduced Compensation for 2026 Season
Texas quarterback Arch Manning has agreed to take a smaller piece of the team's House settlement revenue sharing pool in 2026, according to On3Sports.com. This does not impact his individual NIL deals, but he'll take less money from the $20.5 million revenue-sharing cap permitted under the House case settlement. This freed-up money can help Texas attract more players in the winter transfer portal as they look to retool the roster in hopes of competing for the College Football Playoff National Championship next season. After a mostly-rocky first five games of the 2025 campaign, Manning settled in and finished with 2,942 passing yards, 244 rushing yards, and 32 total touchdowns to seven interceptions. It wasn't a perfect first year as a starter, but he showed flashes of why he was a big-time recruit, and if he takes a step forward in what could be his last collegiate season, Texas should be in the thick of the SEC and National Championship race.

Will Muschamp Becoming Next Texas Defensive Coordinator
Texas has fired defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and is replacing him with Will Muschamp, according to On3Sports. In 2025, Texas ranked sixth in the SEC in scoring defense (19.8) and ninth in the conference in total defense (336.0). Although the Longhorns had a solid showing defensively for most of the season, their 29 points surrendered to Florida and 35 points allowed to Georgia were evidently enough to cost Kwiatkowski his job. Muschamp is an SEC veteran, working as a defensive coordinator at Auburn, LSU, and Georgia throughout his coaching career. He spent nine total seasons as a head coach in the league with Florida and South Carolina, posting a 56-51 record overall. Muschamp has been a successful defensive mind at several stops, and he's worked closely with Nick Saban and Kirby Smart in the past. He spent time as the Texas defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2010, which ultimately earned him the Gators' head coaching job following the departure of Urban Meyer.

Beau Pribula Set to Enter Transfer Portal
Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula plans to enter the transfer portal, according to On3's Pete Nakos. The former Penn State transfer arrived in Columbia after Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar announced his return to State College for another season. Pribula played in 10 games for Eli Drinkwitz, posting 2,238 total yards, 17 total touchdowns, and nine interceptions. A lower-body injury caused him to miss two games. The Pennsylvania native started his Missouri career hot before tailing off in conference play, but his dual-threat skill set and experience should make him an attractive target for a program in need of a veteran signal-caller. Rising sophomore Matt Zollers, who threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman, could be in line the be the Tigers' starting quarterback in 2026.

Jeremiyah Love Officially Heading to NFL Draft
Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love announced his decision to enter the 2026 NFL Draft on Tuesday night. The 2025 Doak Walker Award winner had an electric career with the Irish, rushing 433 times for 2,882 yards (6.7 YPC) and 36 touchdowns in 41 games. He also hauled in 63 passes for 594 yards and six touchdowns. Love tallied 1,652 yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns in 2025 despite sharing a backfield with Jadarian Price, and he finished in third place in this year's Heisman voting. Love is likely to be a first-round pick in next April's draft, and his do-it-all skill set will give him the ability to be an every-down back at the next level.

Jake Merklinger Leaving Tennessee for Transfer Portal
Tennessee quarterback Jake Merklinger is entering the transfer portal, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett and Pete Nakos. Merklinger just completed his redshirt freshman season and has three years of eligibility remaining. The Georgia native appeared in six games over the last two seasons, completing just under 58% of his passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Merklinger was beaten out by transfer quarterback Joey Aguilar for the QB1 job in Knoxville following the departure of Nico Iamaleava, and if he stayed at Tennessee, he'd likely be behind big-time quarterback recruits George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon in 2026.

Kansas State's Jayce Brown Intends to Transfer
Kansas State wide receiver Jayce Brown is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Brown caught 41 passes for 712 yards (team-high) and five touchdowns in 2025, adding seven carries for 116 yards and one score. The Florida native earned third-team All-Big 12 honors in his junior season. In 33 career games with K-State, Brown tallied 115 receptions for 1,972 yards and 14 touchdowns. It appears he will not stick around under new head coach Collin Klein, who was previously the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M. This leaves Kansas State with big shoes to fill in its wide receiver room, while Brown should be an attractive target to several programs in need of proven pass-catching talent.

Nation's Leading Passer Drew Mestemaker to Enter Transfer Portal
North Texas quarterback Drew Mestemaker is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to On3Sports. The Texas native broke out in 2025 as a redshirt freshman, completing over 70% of his passes for 4,129 yards, 31 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also rushed for five more scores. The 19-year-old led the FBS in passing yards, and North Texas led the country in both total offense (504.3) and scoring offense (40.8). Former Mean Green head coach Eric Morris left for Oklahoma State, so the Cowboys could be his top suitor as he enters the open market. Mestemaker joins a crowded group of talented QBs in this year's transfer portal, but he's the most productive player to announce his intention to transfer thus far.

Jayden Maiava Signs New Deal to Return to USC
University of Southern California quarterback Jayden Maiava signed a new deal with the program to return in 2026, according to USC's official X account. The Hawaii native began his career at UNLV before heading to Los Angeles ahead of the 2024 campaign. While splitting time with Miller Moss as the Trojans' starting quarterback in 2024, he threw for 1,201 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions in seven games. After Moss left for Louisville in 2025, Maiava entered the season as the starting quarterback and completed over 66% of his passes for 3,341 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight picks. He also ran for six touchdowns. USC improved from 7-6 to 9-3 (pending bowl game) from 2024 and 2025, and the program could continue its upward trend in the Big Ten with another year of Maiava running Lincoln Riley's offense.

Aidan Mizell Won't Return to Florida, Entering Transfer Portal
Florida Gators wide receiver Aidan Mizell is set to enter the transfer portal, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 and Rivals. The rising redshirt junior was a four-star recruit out of Orlando in the 2023 recruiting cycle, but he's been unable to carve out a big-time role in the Florida offense. In 22 career games, he's hauled in 38 receptions for 404 yards and three touchdowns, including 19 receptions for 177 yards and one score in his final year in Gainesville. He's a talented player with a strong prospect profile, so he should have several suitors as he hits the open market.

East Carolina Targeting Jordan Davis as Next Offensive Coordinator
East Carolina is pursuing North Texas offensive coordinator Jordan Davis to be its next offensive coordinator, reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel. The 33-year-old aided former UNT head coach Eric Morris in leading the Mean Green to the No. 1 total offense (504.3) and scoring offense (44.8) in 2025. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker had a breakout season under Davis, passing for over 4,000 yards and 31 touchdowns. Davis began his coaching career at Texas Tech in 2016 as a graduate assistant before stints at Incarnate Word, Washington State, and North Texas. If the two sides reach a deal, he will be tasked with replacing John David Baker, who has been hired as Ole Miss' offensive coordinator for 2026.

Michigan QB Jadyn Davis Set to Enter Transfer Portal
Michigan quarterback Jadyn Davis plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3Sports. The former four-star recruit in the Class of 2024 has appeared in just one game, attempting two passes, and throwing one interception. The North Carolina native was stuck behind five-star Bryce Underwood in 2025, and he'll search for a new opportunity ahead of the 2026 season. The list of transfer quarterbacks continues to grow with names like Brendan Sorsby (Cincinnati), Dylan Raiola (Nebraska), and DJ Lagaway (Florida), so Davis won't be the hottest name available. That said, he's a talented player and should have several suitors.
