Is Alvin Kamara out for the season? When is Alvin Kamara coming back? The latest Alvin Kamara injury update and fantasy football outlook heading into Week 18 of 2025.
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (knee, ankle) hasn't played a down of football since Week 13. In Week 12, early in the contest, he suffered a knee injury that had him pulled from the game.
Kamara hasn't had a great season. Though he was seen as a safe pick around the fifth and sixth rounds of 12-team PPR leagues, he's been anything but that, and has hardly been rosterable based on production alone.
The season is drawing to a close soon, and the Saints are out of the playoffs, so he has just one more chance to take the field before the football year is over for him. Will he be out for the season or will he be able to play? Let's dive in.

Is Alvin Kamara Out for the 2025 Season?
The latest updates we have are that Kamara wasn't able to practice with the team on Wednesday. Though he wasn't placed on injured reserve, it's likely his season is over. There's little reason to send him out to play in a meaningless game that has no impact on the Saints far-gone ability to make the playoffs.
Instead, it makes sense to let him rest. With both of his backup running backs, Kendre Miller (knee) and Devin Neal (hamstring) out for the season, they'll get to see what they have in RBs Evan Hull and Audric Estime. Which is probably not much, but at least they can secure better draft position.
Alvin Kamara ROS schedule...
-Falcons (27th-ranked schedule-adjusted defense vs RBs)
-Dolphins (26th)
-Buccaneers (25th)
-Panthers (19th)
-Jets (16th, but awful w/o Quinnen Williams)
-Titans (23rd)Not one above-average run defense left. O better with Shough maybe. Buy! pic.twitter.com/BJ9FhWAHHt

It looked like he was on the brink of turning his season around after a solid performance against the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old will probably have to wait through another offseason for a chance at getting back on track.
Alvin Kamara 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
There probably isn't any outlook. In the outside chance that he ends up playing, he's probably not worth starting, either. He'd likely be in a committee with the other backs of some sort. New Orleans has nothing left to play for, and you'd have to hope for a lucky touchdown or two and some checkdown passes.
I can't imagine a world in which I'd be happy to have Kamara as my starter. He's well past his prime, and the offenses isn't as good as it was in 2024, when Kamara was still fantasy relevant based on his volume and pass-catching work. Those days are likely gone.

The second meaning of the NFL acronym is "Not For Long". RBs past the age of 30 often suffer sharp declines in efficiency and production despite some still being great, like Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry. He's the exception rather than the rule.
Kamara dealt with injury issues this season, but his career is close to being over. It's hard to see him being productive for more than one or two more years in the NFL, and those might be as he's serving as the backup on another team or playing on a low-value contract in more of a backfield timeshare with Miller and Neal.

It would have been a good idea to sell him in dynasty leagues during last season, when he still appeared to be a great running back. If you weren't able to, he doesn't have much trade value left, and will probably be out of the league altogether after a few more unproductive seasons in which he's not worth starting consistently.
