Bowden Francis Rocked in Short Outing
Bowden Francis allowed seven hits and six earned runs over 1 2/3 innings, falling to 2-7 in Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He struck out two, issued two free passes, and hit a batter. It didn't take long for things to go south for the 29-year-old, as he walked Bryson Stott on four pitches to start the game and then yielded back-to-back home runs to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper. All six of the runs against him came in that frame as the Phillies batted around. Another run scored on an error in the second inning after a walk and a single, and that was enough for him to be pulled. Francis hasn't been right since letting up seven earned runs to the Red Sox a month ago, and holds a ghastly 5.84 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in his 12 starts (57 innings). He'll look for better results his next time out against the Twins later this week.
