Week 12 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Outlooks
Khalil Shakir, Houston Texans
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir (personal) enters a Week 12 matchup against the Houston Texans in unknown territory after missing practice on both Monday and Tuesday for personal reasons. Assuming Shakir plays, he's a low-end WR3 option against Houston, the top-ranked defense against PPR wide receivers.
The veteran is also coming off his worst game of the season, a performance in which he caught just one pass for negative three yards against Tampa Bay. Without knowing the full extent of the absence, managers will have to wait until Buffalo releases its list of inactives to make sure Shakir is playing. Luckily, as the first game of the week, there will be ample opportunity to pivot in another direction.
Matthew Golden, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. The rookie ran routes off to the side, but he didn't catch any passes as the Packers began to prepare for Sunday's Week 12 contest against the Minnesota Vikings. Golden has been a disappointment in his first NFL season, frequently appearing on the injury report and catching just 24 passes for 286 yards and zero touchdowns through nine games.
The Packers have a lengthy injury report on the offensive side of the ball with Tucker Kraft (knee) on IR, Josh Jacobs (knee) and Savion Williams (foot) not practicing, and Golden, Christian Watson (knee), Romeo Doubs (wrist), and Dontayvion Wicks (calf) all limited. If some of his fellow pass-catchers can't suit up this week, Golden would have a chance to emerge as Jordan Love's primary target, giving him WR3/flex appeal. On the other hand, he has his own injury concerns to deal with, and he'll likely need to log a full practice at some point to avoid being issued a "questionable" designation.
Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice. The second-year receiver was able to get on the field as he works his way back from a two-game absence. The 23-year-old seems to be trending in the right direction for Week 12 against the Arizona Cardinals. Assuming he is able to suit up, Thomas should be a worthwhile fantasy starter. There's no denying that he was more bust than boom during the first half of the season, but this week's matchup against the Cardinals gives him a decent opportunity to get right if he plays.
Arizona has allowed the 12th-most receptions and 14th-most receiving yards to wide receivers this year. Plus, he faces less competition now with Travis Hunter (knee) on injured reserve. Thomas does still have to compete for targets with Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington, but he has a better chance to establish himself as the top receiver of this offense going forward. Fantasy managers should give him another chance to earn their trust as a mid-range WR3 against the Cardinals.
Sterling Shepard, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Sterling Shepard (shoulder) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session. Shepard will join fellow wideouts Chris Godwin (leg) and Emeka Egbuka (illness) on the injury report to begin the week. Shepard appears to be dealing with a minor shoulder injury, but it shouldn't stop him from suiting up in Week 12.
His fantasy value is likely dependent on whether or not Godwin is able to return this weekend. Last week, Shepard hauled in four of his five targets for 54 yards in the loss to the Buffalo Bills. The veteran wideout would take a backseat in the passing game if Godwin and Egbuka are both healthy.
Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs (wrist) was listed as a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. He pops up on the injury report with a wrist injury, which seems to be new for him. It doesn't sound like a serious issue, but fantasy managers should monitor the injury report throughout the week.
Doubs could be asked to take on a bigger role this weekend with Christian Watson (knee), Matthew Golden (shoulder, wrist), and Dontayvion Wicks (calf) all on the injury report as well. Fantasy managers should check the injury report on Thursday and Friday, but Doubs figures to be good to go for Week 12.
Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (leg) was given a limited tag in Wednesday's practice. Godwin wasn't seen during the portion of practice open to the media, but he eventually got in some work as he continues to work his way back from a fibular injury that has kept him out since Week 5.
The 29-year-old was also limited in three practices last week before he was ruled out for the Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Todd Bowles said earlier this week that Godwin was "ramping up" his activity level, but he's probably going to need to upgrade to a full practice on Thursday or Friday to have a realistic chance at returning to action on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams. With only two games played so far in 2025, Godwin will most likely be eased back into the offense when he's cleared, which might not be for another couple of weeks.
