Will Justin Fields play in Week 3 for fantasy football? Is Justin Fields injured or hurt heading into Week 3 of 2025? Read the latest Justin Fields injury report.
When Justin Fields signed with the New York Jets in March, it was seen as his second chance at making it as a starting quarterback in the NFL. A rocky tenure in Chicago had many questioning if Fields was cut out for the league. However, Fields benefited from a change of scenery in 2024, leading the Steelers to a 4-2 start while standing in for an injured Russell Wilson and renewing interest in the one-time 11th overall draft pick.
As the Jets’ unquestioned starter, fantasy managers were excited to bet on Fields’ potential as a dual-threat quarterback. The promise he showed in Week 1 was checked in Week 2 as Fields struggled in the first three quarters against the Bills. Disappointment gave way to concern when his day came to an unfortunate end early in the fourth quarter, after his head hit the turf while being sacked.
So what is Fields’ status for Week 3, and will he play? Read the latest Justin Fields injury news and fantasy outlook below.

Justin Fields Fantasy Football Injury Update
In Week 1, Fields reminded fantasy managers of his value when he plays at the top of his game. While he fell short of winning the “revenge game” against the Steelers, he went 16-for-22 for 218 passing yards and a touchdown and added 49 yards and two scores on the ground.
His effort in Week 2 was more representative of the lowlights we have seen from Fields over the last few years. In the first three quarters against Buffalo, he was 3-for-9 for 27 passing yards and 48 rushing yards and a fumble lost. The fourth quarter started with an incompletion, followed by another, and finally the sack that ended his day.
While it was the sack that drove his head into the turf that prompted his removal from the game, in-game replays of the previous play show Fields hitting the back of his head on the turf while getting dragged down mid-throw. Fields is now in the league’s concussion protocol.

Is Justin Fields Playing in Week 3?
When a player is diagnosed with a concussion, he must go through a five-step process before being cleared to play or even participate in a full practice. There is no set timeline for a return, as each player progresses through the protocol according to the severity of their injury.
In the first phase of the protocol, players are prescribed rest and face strict limitations as to what physical activities they can perform. Players graduate through each step under the supervision of their team’s medical staff. Each phase can take multiple days within itself. The average time missed by a player diagnosed with a concussion is nine days.
While there is little other news surrounding Fields’ condition so soon after the injury, it is safe to assume he will not be available for Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Justin Fields Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 3
Without a clear timeline for a return to action, fantasy managers should hedge against Fields being available for Week 3. Should he miss time, Tyrod Taylor would helm the Jets’ offense against Tampa. Taylor was effective in relief of Fields in Week 2, going 7-for-11 for 56 passing yards and a touchdown, and picking up 21 yards on the ground on three rushes. For their part, the Jets will be preparing for Taylor to be under center next Sunday.
Because of Justin Fields (concussion) uncertainty, Aaron Glenn says he will have to prepare game plans for Fields and Tyrod Taylor. But he says it won't change that much. Glenn says it would be "hard" to play Fields if, by Friday, he hasn't had any practice reps. #Jets

An almost career-long backup, Taylor's resume as it pertains to fantasy football is extremely limited. Taylor's last start came in 2023, getting five over the course of the season with the Giants. He left one of those starts injured, but in the other four, he averaged 271.25 passing yards per game and had a total of four passing touchdowns to two interceptions.
Some low-rostered quarterbacks to consider for Week 3 include Michael Penix (who will face the Panthers), Mac Jones (who looked good filling in for Brock Purdy against the Saints in Week 2), and Daniel Jones, who is off to a surprisingly hot start.
If you play in a league with IR slots, it is best to stash Fields there until more is learned about his timeline.
