Luke Weaver Takes Loss in Return from Injured List
Luke Weaver (1-2) suffered his second loss of the season in a 5-3 decision against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. Returning after missing three weeks with a hamstring injury, Weaver entered a 3-3 game in the top of the eighth inning. The right-hander gave up a leadoff home run to Orioles third baseman Ramon Urias and later yielded a walk and a single. The Yankees pulled Weaver after he threw 24 pitches and recorded two outs (one via strikeout), but lefty Tim Hill allowed one of the two inherited runners to score on a Gunnar Henderson single. It's not what the Yankees or fantasy managers wanted to see from Weaver after a lengthy absence. While Weaver still owns a shiny 1.71 ERA over 26 1/3 innings, he has now surrendered a homer in three of his four most recent appearances. The Yankees will continue turning to Weaver and Devin Williams in high-leverage situations, though it could be the latter who receives more save opportunities. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor how the Yankees use the two late in games.
