9 hours agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (groin) was able to throw a successful bullpen session on Tuesday. The right-hander threw nearly 50 pitches without any issues, It's uncertain what the next step is going to be for Gray. He wasn't expected to miss much time after going on the 15-day injured list in late-May. The hope is that the 32-year-old can return within the next week.Source: Kenndi Landry
9 hours agoColorado Rockies outfielder Kris Bryant (rib) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against Cincinnati Reds. The veteran slugger will miss his second straight contest due to rib soreness. Bryant suffered the injury while making a catch during the weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fantasy managers should consider Bryant as day-to-day. Jake Cave will cover left field and bat eighth versus right-hander Frankie Montas on Tuesday.Source: mlb.com
9 hours agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Shelby Miller (elbow) has been activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers. The veteran right-hander will make his return following a three-week absence due to a nerve issue in his right elbow. The 33-year-old holds a 4.41 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 15/6 K/BB ratio across 15 games. He should return to his role of being a high leverage option out of the pen.Source: Tigers PR
10 hours agoThe San Diego Padres have recently shown strong interest in Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet, according to sources briefed on the White Sox's discussions, less than three months after acquiring right-hander Dylan Cease from Chicago. The Padres have more of a need for starting pitcher after putting both Joe Musgrove (elbow) and Yu Darvish (groin) on the injured list for the second time this year over the weekend, although San Diego's farm system may be thinned out so much that it doesn't hold the same appeal for the White Sox. Crochet is the team's best starter and is making $800,000 and will remain arbitration-eligible for the next two years. For Chicago to trade Crochet, they'd likely require at least one position player prospect with significant upside, and the Padres are reluctant to discuss catcher Ethan Salas and shortstop Leodalis De Vries.Source: The Athletic - Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal
10 hours agoThe Houston Astros called up outfielder Trey Cabbage from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, sending down infielder Grae Kessinger. Cabbage was called up as a buffer for outfielder Kyle Tucker (shin), who was injured after fouling a ball off his shin in Monday's win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Tucker said X-rays showed nothing was broken, but "Right now, it's just kind of hurting." Fantasy managers are breathing a sigh of relief, knowing that Tucker will not be out long-term. Cabbage is hitting .214/.214/.286 with three RBI and two runs scored over 10 appearances with the Astros. He is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals and can be left on the waiver wire in most leagues. Source: Matt Kawahara, Houston Chronicle
10 hours agoPhiladelphia Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez (hand) played catch on Tuesday and is still trending to make his next start this weekend in London against the division-rival New York Mets. "It looks good so far," manager Rob Thomson said. Suarez is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, and if he comes out of that with more thumbs up, he should be cleared to start this weekend. The 28-year-old southpaw left his last start early on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals after he was hit by a line drive on his left (pitching) hand. It's not a serious injury, though, and fantasy managers should be ready to start Suarez this weekend. The Venezuelan hurler has been one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2024, leading the league in wins (nine), ERA (1.70), WHIP (0.79) and hits allowed per nine innings (5.2).Source: The Athletic - Matt Gelb
10 hours agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Tuesday that right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow) will have "at least a few" minor-league rehab starts before the team has him rejoin the big-league rotation. Cole will start his rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday and is scheduled to throw 40 to 50 pitches. The 33-year-old will then need a few more starts in the minors before the Yankees will feel comfortable reinstating him from the 60-day injured list for his 2024 debut. If Cole gets through his rehab starts without any setbacks to his right elbow, he could be back for fantasy managers in late June. Cole hasn't pitched at all this year due to nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. Once he's back, the reigning American League Cy Young winner will be a must-start every time he toes the rubber.Source: The Athletic - Chris Kirschner
10 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is retreating to the bench on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival San Francisco Giants with a left-hander on the bump. On Monday, the D-backs moved the struggling Carroll down to the eighth spot in the batting order. It's been tough going for last year's National League Rookie of the Year in 2024. The former 16th overall pick in 2019 is currently hitting .192 (43-for-224) with two homers, a league-leading four triples, six doubles, 20 RBI, nine stolen bases and 51 strikeouts in 58 games this year. Until he shows some life at the plate, the Snakes plan to hit him near the bottom of their lineup against southpaws. Since May 13 in a span of 19 games, Carroll has gone 12-for-70 (.171) with no homers, six RBI and 20 strikeouts. Randal Grichuk draws into the lineup in right field and will bat fifth on Tuesday.Source: MLB.com
10 hours agoChicago White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn (finger) is back at first base and is hitting second for the team on Tuesday at Wrigley Field against left-hander Shota Imanaga and the Chicago Cubs. A sprained left ring finger caused Vaughn to miss all three games last weekend for the White Sox, but he's healed up now and ready to give it a go after having an extra day off on Monday. The 26-year-old hasn't really been useful to fantasy managers in mixed leagues in 2024, as he's currently hitting just .199/.264/.313 with four home runs, 11 doubles, 19 RBI, one stolen base, 14 runs scored, 15 walks and 53 strikeouts in 220 trips to the plate over 54 games in his fourth major-league season. In a poor White Sox's lineup, there's little to get excited over about Vaughn the way he's been swinging the bat.Source: Chicago White Sox
11 hours agoBaltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins is on the bench again on Tuesday versus the Toronto Blue Jays and right-handed opener Trevor Richards. Rookie Colton Cowser is in center field and is batting seventh, while Austin Hays gets another start in left field and will bat sixth for the O's. This will be the third time in the last four games that Mullins has found himself starting the game on the bench for Baltimore. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder is trending down in fantasy big time and continues to lose time against right-handed pitchers. So far this year, he's slashing a rough .181/.225/.319 with six home runs and 22 RBI, but at least he's produced 11 stolen bases for his fantasy managers. Mullins hasn't picked up a hit in any of his last five games.Source: MLB.com
11 hours agoFor the second time in the last three games, Toronto Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is starting at third base and will hit third in the batting order on Tuesday against the visiting Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Corbin Burnes. The Toronto Star's Mike Wilner writes that he was told Guerrero would play third base "a couple of times every week and a half or so." Justin Turner will man first base and bat sixth. At this rate, Vladdy will regain third base eligibility for his fantasy managers. The 25-year-old right-handed slugger may only have six home runs on the year in 227 at-bats, but his managers aren't complaining about his .295 average while also adding 27 runs scored and 27 RBI. Since a four-hit game on May 26, Guerrero is hitting .333 (11-for-33) with a homer and three RBI in his last eight contests.Source: Toronto Star - Mike Wilner
11 hours agoWashington Nationals outfielder Jacob Young (hand) is back in center field and is batting in the nine-hole on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival New York Mets and left-hander David Peterson. Young will return to the outfield after missing the last two games due to swelling in his right hand. The 24-year-old is feeling good enough to play on Tuesday, though. Young has minimal DFS upside at the bottom of the batting order but has been useful in traditional fantasy leagues in 2024 because of his speed. He is still searching for the first home run of his career after debuting in the majors in 2023, while he's hit .267 (39-for-146) with 14 RBI, 17 stolen bases and 25 runs scored in 48 games. Against lefties in 2024, he's gone 16-for-49 (.327) with five RBI and 10 thefts.Source: MASN Sports - Mark Zuckerman
11 hours agoHouston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker (shin) is out of Tuesday's lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals. He fouled a ball off his shin during Monday's 7-4 win. Astros manager Joe Espada said Tucker is "day to day" and feeling better. The Astros will be without their slugger, slashing .266/.395/.584 with 19 homers, 40 RBI, 42 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases. Fantasy managers hope Tucker returns for Wednesday's series finale against the Cardinals. Still, with the Astros having a travel day on Thursday, Tucker will likely return to the lineup on Friday when the Astros visit the Angels. Mauricio Dubon is starting in right field for Tucker and batting ninth in Tuesday's game against St. Louis. Dubon is slashing .298/.324/.405 over 47 games in 2024. Source: Chandler Rome, The Athletic
11 hours agoWashington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams (shoulder) is back at shortstop and in his customary leadoff spot on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets and left-hander David Peterson. Abrams will return to Washington's starting lineup for the first time since last Friday, and fantasy managers in all leagues will need to throw him back into their starting lineups as well, even though he's gone hitless with eight strikeouts in 14 at-bats over his last three games. The former first-rounder (sixth overall) by the San Diego Padres in 2019 is in the midst of a breakout season with nine home runs, 26 RBI and eight stolen bases in 217 at-bats. Abrams has also been better against left-handed pitchers this year, too, going 22-for-63 (.349) with three home runs and 12 RBI against them.Source: MASN Sports - Mark Zuckerman
11 hours agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates recalled outfielder Jack Suwinski from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday and placed outfielder Ji Hwan Bae (wrist) on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right wrist in a corresponding move. The team also added Liover Peguero to the active roster and placed outfielder Michael Taylor on the paternity list. Suwinski is starting in center field and batting ninth on Tuesday against Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow. In 29 plate appearances for Indy, the 25-year-old Suwinski hit .250 with a homer and will now get another shot to prove he deserves playing time in center field against right-handers in the big leagues with both Bae and Taylor not with the team. Suwinski hit just .224 last year but did manager an impressive 26 home runs, 74 RBI and 13 stolen bases for the Bucs.Source: Pittsburgh PG - Andrew Destin
