Islanders Pick Up Matias Maccelli on One-Year Contract
The New York Islanders bolstered their offense by signing winger Matias Maccelli on the first day of free agency. He was signed to a one-year, $2.25 million contract. Maccelli was available as an unrestricted free agent after the Toronto Maple Leafs declined to issue him his $4.11 million qualifying offer. 12 months ago, Toronto acquired Maccelli in a trade with the Utah Mammoth. He was quiet for most of the campaign, tallying 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists) in 70 games. Maccelli flirted with a 60-point season just a couple of years ago, and he could be a very smart signing for the Islanders if he can get near that level again.
