An attorney representing former LSU star quarterback Jayden Daniels has informed the program that it can no longer use the Former Heisman Trophy winner's name, image, and likeness, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach. This stems from the program allowing sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett to wear No. 5 this preseason, marking the first time someone has worn the number since Daniels left for the NFL. "The Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU's decision to give Jayden's number to another player," the statement said. "Jayden and his family had every reason to believe that his number would remain a meaningful part of his LSU legacy and would be honored and protected in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the university." In 2023, Daniels tallied 3,812 passing yards, 1,134 rushing yards, and 50 total touchdowns en route to a Heisman Trophy. According to his spokesperson, he has made it clear he did not want his No. 5 jersey number to be given to another player after that historic season. This seems like a strange battle to fight, but nothing is surprising in this era of college football.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller
