1B/3B Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups Week 24 (2023)

Luis Regnifo - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Lauren's (@philaurdelphia) fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for 1B and 3B for Week 24 of the 2023 season. Consider adding and streaming these first basemen and third basemen.

The first few days of September baseball have not disappointed, as many games already have a playoff atmosphere. There are close division races, as well as wild card races. It's sure to make for an interesting month that will have fans on the edge of their seats.

By this point, adding from the waiver wire in your fantasy baseball league may seem pointless. But it doesn't hurt to still take a look to see what it has to offer this deep in the season. For some of you, your league may be starting the playoffs next week, or you still have the rest of the month left (like mine).

Whatever your situation, I hope the names listed below can help you in the corner infield. Here are more first and third-base fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for Week 24 -- September 4 through September 10.

Waiver Wire Pickups For Shallow Leagues (30-50% rostered)

Jose Abreu, 1B, Houston Astros (50% rostered)

It must feel a bit strange seeing Jose Abreu's name on this list, but the Astros' first baseman recently dropped to 50% rostered. Although that's reflective of the rather disappointing year he's had, the veteran has since begun to find his power stroke. He's belted a pair of home runs in his last seven games for Houston, collecting seven hits overall while driving in seven and walking four times.

The 36-year-old former MVP has also slugged .519 and reached base at a .355 clip. This doesn't make up for his severely underwhelming .648 OPS on the year; however, if Abreu can continue to hit for power as the Astros enter the stretch run, it may help fans forget his discouraging year.

Luis Rengifo, 2B/3B/SS/OF, Los Angeles Angels (48% rostered)

There hasn't been a hotter hitter in baseball the last week than Luis Rengifo. Sure, the Angels are still a dumpster fire. But their 26-year-old infielder has been tearing it up at the plate, slashing a cool .464/.452/.821 in his last seven games along with an ongoing 10-game hitting streak.

During this span, he's had 13 hits, including a pair of three-hit games, as well as three homers and seven RBI. Despite Los Angeles being long out of the playoff race, they're looking to at least avoid finishing below .500 for the eighth straight season -- that may prove to be difficult, though. They're also hoping that Rengifo can finish off the year strong and perhaps be a part of their future plans.

Waiver Wire For Deeper Leagues (10-30% rostered)

Noelvi Marte, 3B/SS, Cincinnati Reds (10% rostered)

Before you say "What are you talking about, Lauren? Have you seen Noelvi Marte's numbers?" Hear me out. Marte was called up to the big leagues by the Reds on August 19 and I think he's due for a hot streak. In his last seven games, he's slashed just .217/.280/.217 with five hits, three RBI, two walks, and seven strikeouts.

But...he has yet to hit his first major league home run. Cincinnati just pulled out two narrow wins against the Cubs (one thanks to Marte himself) who were hot during the month of August, and have a pair of three-game series versus the even hotter Seattle Mariners and the abysmal St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds seem to be working some magic at the moment and Marte has been hitting the ball hard. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to go deep this week.

Carlos Santana, 1B, Milwaukee Brewers (14% rostered)

Slamtana is back! Carlos Santana went deep for the Brewers against the Phillies on Saturday night, a two-run shot that aided Milwaukee to a 7-5 win over the Fightins. This brought his average across the last seven games up to .417 along with a .625 slugging percentage. He's added 10 hits, four RBI, and seven walks overall.

So far, Santana has looked like a decent deadline addition for the Brew Crew. He's homered seven times and has an OPS of .753 in 28 games. Should he be able to replicate his month of June during September, in which he had six long balls and 19 RBI while still with the Pittsburgh Pirates, that would be ideal as Milwaukee looks to claim the NL Central division crown.

Deeper Waiver Wire Options to Consider (Under 10%)

Carter Kieboom, 3B, Washington Nationals (2% rostered)

Carter Kieboom recently returned to the majors after suffering a string of injuries that kept him sidelined for the majority of 2023. The Nationals reinstated him on August 20. In the 10 games that followed, the 26-year-old has blasted three home runs and collected six RBI, good for a .775 OPS.

The former first-round pick has never quite lived up to his potential due to injuries limiting him to just 116 games since 2019. He's shown some flashes of power when he does play but doesn't have much to show for with a career .607 OPS. Still, the Nationals finished August on a high note and may look to play spoiler during the month of September. Kieboom figures to be a part of that effort as they aim for a fourth-place finish in the NL East.
