Jack Layne Questionable to Play in Week 1
New Mexico quarterback Jack Layne (elbow) is questionable for the season opener against Central Michigan. Layne underwent offseason elbow surgery to repair a torn tendon. Although he's been practicing, he hasn't participated in full team drills. In 13 games with the Lobos in 2025, Layne completed 213 of 327 passes for 2,486 yards, with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and added 152 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Layne led New Mexico to a 9-4 record, the team's best since 2016 and their first bowl appearance in a decade. If Layne is unable to take the field on September 5th against Central Michigan, former Oregon quarterback Luke Moga is projected to start.
