Denise Gomes Scores First-Round Knockout Win

Denise Gomes extended her win streak by finishing former title challenger Yan Xiaonan via first-round knockout in the co-main event of UFC Shanghai on Saturday. Gomes came out as the aggressor from the start, and with 30 seconds remaining in the first round, Gomes landed a devastating elbow and followed up with punches, knocking Xiaonan out. In 4:49 of action, Gomes landed 18 significant strikes. It was Gomes's fifth straight win, and it puts her as one of the top contenders in the women's strawweight division. --Alen Kurbasic
