Iowa quarterbacks Jeremy Hecklinski and Hank Brown have been competing for the starting role all offseason, but head coach Kirk Ferentz has suggested both quarterbacks will play in Week 1 against Northern Illinois, and the competition is not over. However, On3's sources project Hecklinski to take the first snaps on Saturday and view him as having an edge in the QB1 race. Hecklinski spent the 2024 season at Wake Forest before joining the Hawkeyes program in 2025. Overall, he has appeared in three games, completing two passes for eight yards. Brown began his career at Auburn under Hugh Freeze and transferred to Iowa in 2025. He's played in eight games, completing 45 of 73 passing attempts for 642 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions. Although he has a bit more game experience, neither quarterback has been a long-term starter. Given how Iowa operates, neither quarterback will be expected to carry the offense. Instead, expect running backs Kamari Moulton and LJ Phillips Jr. to carry the load.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller
