Grant Holmes Hopes to Throw Sim Games by November
Grant Holmes (elbow) is out for the season after landing on the 60-day injured list on July 27 with a partial tear of his UCL. Holmes, who has opted to take the rest-and-rehab route instead of undergoing elbow surgery, is optimistic that he'll be able to return next season. The 29-year-old expects to begin the important step of throwing simulated games in the fall, as he told David O'Brien of The Athletic that he's targeting "the beginning of November." There is always the possibility of Holmes needing surgery sometime before next season, which would likely wipe out his 2026 campaign. If his rehab is successful, though, the former first-round pick will try to build on a season in which he registered a 3.99 ERA with 123 strikeouts over a career-high 21 starts and 115 innings. In his most memorable start of 2025, Holmes punched out 15 Colorado Rockies in just 6 1/3 innings on June 15. He took the loss despite allowing only two earned runs.
