Two-Start Pitcher Streamers: Fantasy Baseball SP Pickups and Starts - Week 22 (2024)

DJ Herz - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Starting pitcher two-start streamers for Week 22 (2024). Fantasy baseball SP waiver wire pickups for pitchers with two starts scheduled in the week ahead, August 19 to August 25.

Welcome RotoBallers to our Two-Start Pitcher Streamers article - Waiver Wire Streamers and Starts for Week 22, from August 19 to August 25. With multiple teams having six or seven games on their schedule, we're looking at a nice variety of two-start pitchers.

Each week of this fantasy baseball season, this fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups column will identify starting pitchers expected to make two starts in the upcoming week. It can be considered as fantasy baseball streamers ahead of the Sunday night waiver wire run for leagues with weekly transactions.

There are 37 pitchers currently scheduled to make two starts during this period. We will be looking at pitchers who are less than 50% owned in Yahoo leagues. Listed will be those who are rostered over 50%, those who are best available under 50%, and risky options under 50%. There are a few other two-start pitchers available, but they should be avoided.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Two-Start Pitchers - Over 50% Rostered

Best Available Two-Start Pitcher Streamers

Kyle Harrison (45% Rostered), San Francisco Giants

Scheduled Starts: vs. CHW, @ SEA

With a 4.14 ERA, 4.35 FIP, 1.31 WHIP, and 21.9% strikeout rate, one may sift rookie Kyle Harrison away from consideration this week.

However, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better set of matchups this week than the league-worst Chicago White Sox offense (by runs scored this season) and a Seattle Mariners offense ranked 27th in scoring and first in strikeouts this year.

While Harrison's arsenal hasn't played as well this season as most would've hoped given his stellar minor-league track record (35.6% strikeout rate in 20 Triple-A starts), his 21.9% strikeout rate should play well against two of the league's worst offenses.

DJ Herz (6% Rostered), Washington Nationals

Scheduled Starts: vs. COL, @ ATL

Though his basic statistical profile won't show it, DJ Herz has pitched incredibly well this season.

Through 12 starts, the rookie pitcher holds a 4.25 ERA, 4.21 FIP, and 1.31 WHIP. However, a 3.45 xERA, 3.56 SIERA, 28.3% strikeout rate, 14.7% SwStr%, and 30.5% CSW% rank him among the best in the league.

His first matchup is the Rockies in Washington with an Atlanta offense ranked 17th in scoring this season next in line. All signs point to a good week for Herz.

Risky Two-Start Streamer Picks

Shane Baz (41% Rostered), Tampa Bay Rays

Scheduled Starts: @ OAK, @ LAD

Still shaking the rust off, Shane Baz holds a 4.21 ERA, 4.08 FIP, 1.43 WHIP, 20.1% strikeout rate, and 8.8% walk rate through seven starts. No grand statements regarding Baz's ability will appear this week -- avoiding a stacked Dodgers offense is good practice when streaming pitchers.

David Peterson (26% Rostered), New York Mets

Scheduled Starts: vs. BAL, @ SD

A 3.04 ERA is not what many expected from David Peterson at the start of the season, but he's brought it to us. However, it comes with a 4.97 xERA, 4.39 FIP, 1.39 WHIP, 18.2% strikeout rate, and 11% walk rate.

With two top-10 offenses on the slate, don't look for David Peterson this week.

Javier Assad (26% Rostered), Chicago Cubs

Scheduled Starts: vs. DET, @ MIA

A gleaming 3.19 ERA obfuscates an awful 4.54 FIP, 19.7% strikeout rate, and 10.5% walk rate through 22 starts this season for Javier Assad. While he'll get two bottom-feeders this week, a Miami offense ranked 15th in scoring since the All-Star break is threatening enough to reconsider Assad this week.

Jose Quintana (25% Rostered), New York Mets

Scheduled Starts: vs. BAL, @ SD

Jose Quintana had a nice run in July (2.05 ERA, 20.3% strikeout rate, 4.93 FIP) as the Mets pushed to Wild Card consideration, but he fell back to Earth this month (6.89 ERA, 5.33 xFIP). There's not much to his current profile that tells you to take him against a Baltimore offense ranked third in scoring this season.

Martin Perez (21% Rostered), San Diego Padres

Scheduled Starts: vs. NYM, vs. MIN

Now with a strong San Diego offense behind him, Martin Perez's name might hold more weight in streaming conversations going forward. However, you won't want him and his 4.62 ERA against two top-10 offenses.

Dean Kremer (17% Rostered), Baltimore Orioles

Scheduled Starts: @ NYM, vs. HOU

Dean Kremer has held subpar expected statistics since the outset but it has finally caught up to him on the mound. A string of bad starts has ballooned his run-prevention stats, with the 28-year-old now sporting a 4.48 ERA, 4.80 FIP, and 5.08 xERA.

Despite support from one of baseball's best lineups, avoid Kremer against two strong offenses.

Edward Cabrera (16% Rostered), Miami Marlins

Scheduled Starts: vs. ARZ, vs. CHC

While his 26.7% strikeout rate is incredibly intriguing, there is no reason to risk taking Edward Cabrera and his 5.76 ERA against an Arizona offense that paces the league in scoring this season.

Luis L. Ortiz (16% Rostered), Pittsburgh Pirates

Scheduled Starts: @ TEX, vs. CIN

Luis L. Ortiz has spun quality innings since finding his way back into the Pirates rotation, with a 3.38 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 4.49 FIP, 18.5% strikeout rate, and 6.3% walk rate through eight starts.

There's something to like now with Ortiz, but not enough to feel confident in him against talented Texas and Cincinnati offenses.

Matthew Boyd (15% Rostered), Cleveland Guardians

Scheduled Starts: @ NYY, vs. TEX

Matthew Boyd was fantastic in his season debut, allowing three hits and one run with six strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs on August 13. You can put as much gas into that start as you want, but it wouldn't be wise to test him against Soto, Judge, and company in Yankee Stadium.

Zebby Matthews (14% Rostered), Minnesota Twins

Scheduled Starts: @ SD, vs. STL

Zebby Matthews had a solid start to his MLB career, allowing two runs with five strikeouts across five innings against the Kansas City Royals. The rookie simply hasn't picked up enough innings to warrant confidence against a top-10 San Diego offense.

Frankie Montas (13% Rostered), Milwaukee Brewers

Scheduled Starts: @ STL, vs. OAK

While he'll get two of the league's weaker offenses, Frankie Montas still hasn't put enough together this season. With a 4.86 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 10% walk rate, leave Montas on the sidelines this week.
