Dynasty Fantasy Football Buys and Sells: Third-Year Running Backs

The running back position is one of the difficult ones to navigate in dynasty leagues because things change so quickly. It was at this time one year ago that Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White was considered a top dynasty asset. He just finished as the RB4 in PPR formats and still had a few more strong seasons ahead of him. 

However, Bucky Irving came in as a rookie and took over the starting job in the middle of the season. Now, White has very little dynasty value heading into the 2025 season. In this article, we will look at five third-year running backs dynasty owners should be buying and selling right now. These running backs could see their dynasty value change over the next few months. 

So, which running backs should you be buying and selling in dynasty leagues? Will these third-year running backs see their dynasty value rise or decline over the next few months? Let's dive in and find out. 

Third-Year Dynasty Fantasy Football Running Backs to Buy

Zach Charbonnet, Seattle Seahawks

It was a bit shocking when the Seattle Seahawks selected Zach Charbonnet in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Seahawks just took Kenneth Walker in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and Walker looked like the team's franchise running back of the future. So, this landing spot for Charbonnet wasn't the best. 

Even though the 24-year-old has played second-fiddle in this offense over his career, he is a sneaky buy in dynasty leagues. For starters, Walker is entering the final year of his rookie contract. While we don't know if the Seahawks plan to extend him beyond this season, Charbonnet could be in that RB1 role before we know it.

In that RB1 role last year, Charbonnet was a strong fantasy option. Walker missed six games due to injuries in 2024, and the UCLA product averaged 19.2 PPR fantasy points in those games. His best performance as Seattle's lead back came in Week 14 when he rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns en route to a 38.3 PPR fantasy point day.

Now, we likely shouldn't expect Charbonnet to put up those types of numbers in 2025 with Walker still in town. However, buying the 24-year-old one year before his counterpart is set to hit free agency could be a fantastic move for your dynasty team. He could also emerge as a weekly flex play this year, considering he ran the second-most routes (308) among all running backs in 2024. 

Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans 

Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears has shown his potential in each of his first two NFL seasons. He totaled 838 yards from scrimmage as a rookie and totaled over 90 scrimmage yards in two of the final three games of the 2024 campaign. However, playing behind Derrick Henry (2023) and Tony Pollard (2024) over those two years capped his fantasy upside. 

Although Spears is set to back up Pollard again during the 2025 season, this could be the season we finally see him break out. The Titans have been adamant all offseason about involving the 24-year-old more on offense. Head coach Brian Callahan said last month that he is "excited to see what he can bring to us this year because he's been in a great place."

Given that he just turned 24 years old, this is a prime time to buy someone who could be a solid fantasy option for years to come. He is a major weapon in the passing game and ranked 16th among all running backs in fantasy points per opportunity (0.96) last season. If Pollard were to miss any time in 2025, Spears would immediately be a strong RB1. 

In the one game that Pollard missed last season (Week 17), the Tulane product finished as the RB12 while totaling 23 touches and 103 yards from scrimmage. There's a lot to like about Spears in dynasty over the next few years. He is still extremely young and on a Titans offense that should improve with Cam Ward under center.

Third-Year Dynasty Fantasy Football Running Backs to Sell

Kendre Miller, New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints running back Kendre Miller was a popular buy in dynasty leagues last offseason. After an injury-riddled rookie campaign in 2023, many dynasty owners believed Miller was going to be a valuable dynasty asset moving forward. He was the fourth running back taken in the 2023 NFL Draft (third round), and Alvin Kamara is on the older side. 

Nevertheless, Miller continued to be a disappointing fantasy option last year. He appeared in just six games due to two different injuries (concussion and hamstring strain) and only averaged 4.9 PPR fantasy points in those six contests. Even though the former TCU star is just 23 years old, it might be time to sell him while he still has some dynasty value. 

Injuries continue to be a major problem for Miller. He has only played in 14 of 34 possible games over the past two years, and these injuries date back to his final college season with the Horned Frogs. He didn't play in the National Championship Game in 2023 and missed all the pre-draft workouts due to a knee sprain. 

While his situation in New Orleans is promising, Miller has not shown anything in his career so far that suggests he will become a reliable fantasy option. He is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry through his first two seasons, and rookie Devin Neal enters this backfield fresh off a 1,266-yard, 16-touchdown campaign at Kansas in 2024.

Miller's injury history is a big red flag entering the 2025 season, making him a sell in most dynasty formats. He might not have much dynasty value right now, but it's worth getting rid of him amid a disappointing start to his NFL career.

Tank Bigsby, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby showed some encouraging things in his second season in 2024. He totaled a career-high 766 yards and emerged as a solid flex play throughout the year. Bigsby scored in double-digits in PPR formats in six of his final 12 games, including a 23.8 PPR fantasy point effort in Week 7 against the New England Patriots. 

Despite looking solid on the ground in Jacksonville's backfield last season, the Auburn alum is one of the biggest third-year running back sells entering the 2025 campaign. Not only did the Jaguars select speedy running back Bhayshul Tuten in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but Bigsby's limited work in the receiving game will cap his fantasy ceiling throughout his career.

Bigsby only caught seven passes for 54 yards through the air in 2024. That resulted in some subpar fantasy days for the 22-year-old running back. He scored under five PPR fantasy points in eight of 16 games last season.

Although there is a strong chance that Travis Etienne Jr. is not with the team next year, Bigsby's lack of receiving work will never make him a reliable RB2 option in fantasy. So, it's time to sell the third-year running back in dynasty leagues, especially since Tuten has the potential to really take over this backfield in the coming years. 

Roschon Johnson, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson was a slight dynasty winner this offseason. Offensive guru Ben Johnson will now be calling the plays in Chicago's offense, and Johnson has been known to lean on two running backs in his scheme, dating back to his days in Detroit. The Bears also only added one running back this offseason, a seventh-round rookie in Kyle Monangai. 

All that has Johnson trending up heading into the 2025 season. He should be D'Andre Swift's backup throughout the year and could emerge as Chicago's goal-line back. The Bears' running back comes in at 6'0", 227 pounds, which means he really has the chance to be the team's short-yardage back this year. 

However, Johnson is a clear sell in most dynasty leagues right now. He only averaged 2.73 yards per carry on the ground last season, and there hasn't been any buzz surrounding the third-year running back entering the year. While that doesn't necessarily mean anything, both Swift and Monangai have been hyped up by the coaching staff in recent weeks. 

With Swift still having two years left on his deal, there might not be a path for Johnson to see significant snaps in this Bears offense until after that contract is up. So, see what you can get for the Chicago running back before the season. If you can potentially get a third-round pick for a player who hasn't shown anything in his career so far, that would be a major win.
