Recent Fantasy Football Rookie News

Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders rookie first-round running back Ashton Jeanty has made a strong impression within the organization, according to ESPN's Ryan McFadden. Head coach Pete Carroll said Jeanty was "every bit" of what the team hoped for during offseason workouts as he showcased his pass-catching abilities and understanding of the offense. The Boise State product received most of the first-team reps during OTAs and minicamp, an indication that he's already established himself as the team's RB1.

"He's such a strong and dynamic back," left tackle Kolton Miller said. "Even if he gets hit, he's still balanced, and that's super unique." There's been talk that the Raiders could use a committee backfield in 2025, but they didn't draft Jeanty sixth overall for that. He's going to cost a pretty penny in fantasy drafts and is already considered a top-five fantasy back going into his rookie campaign.

Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter showed off his two-way abilities in a 31-25 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the opening preseason game, it was expected that Hunter would play a little bit on both sides of the ball, which is exactly what happened. He played 10 offensive snaps and eight defensive snaps. On offense, he ran with the starters on the opening drive and finished with two catches and nine yards. The second-overall pick also had a third catch, of seven yards, wiped out by a penalty.

He didn't produce any defensive stats. From an offensive perspective, Hunter's early involvement should have fantasy managers excited. Brian Thomas Jr., last year's rookie sensation, should still serve as Trevor Lawrence's go-to target, but Hunter has a chance to serve as the wide receiver 1B to Thomas's 1A. His snaps on both sides of the ball should be monitored throughout preseason, but this first game is a promising sign for the two-way phenom.

Emeka Egbuka, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has been a standout performer in training camp practices, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. Laine writes that Egbuka has "stepped into Chris Godwin's role as (Tampa Bay's) big slot receiver." With Godwin (ankle) potentially sidelined to start the regular season while he recovers from ankle surgery, Egbuka could be in line for significant playing time immediately.

In his final collegiate season at Ohio State in 2024, Egbuka caught 81 passes for 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games. The 22-year-old profiles as a fringe WR3/flex option with significant upside, particularly if Godwin struggles to return to full health in 2025.

Cam Skattebo, New York Giants

The MRI exam on New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo (hamstring) was optimistic, according to head coach Brian Daboll. Skattebo will sit out of Monday's training camp practice, but Daboll said all the injured guys are "getting better." With Skattebo nursing a hamstring injury, Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary have seen more work with the first-team offense in camp. The 23-year-old's injury isn't viewed as serious.

Although Skattebo is one of the slowest RBs in the league, he makes up for it by being extremely powerful and explosive in short areas. He has workhorse potential but will have to settle for a complementary role in his first NFL season alongside Tracy and Singletary. RotoBaller has Skattebo ranked as the RB37 heading into fantasy draft season.

Quinshon Judkins, Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins has waived his right to a speedy trial in his ongoing misdemeanor battery/domestic violence case, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. A second-round pick in the 2025 draft, Judkins has yet to sign his rookie contract with the Browns after being arrested in July.

This latest update in the case means that a resolution is unlikely to happen quickly. Judkins' timeline for making his Browns debut is uncertain, and the team has made it clear that handling his legal issues is the priority. Without him, running backs Jerome Ford and Dylan Sampson are set to share the majority of the backfield workload in Cleveland.
