Time to Drop Colston Loveland? Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Should I drop Colston Loveland for fantasy football Week 3? Is Colston Loveland a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

Remember when the Bears drafted Colston Loveland in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and we were wondering what that meant for Cole Kmet? Now we're trying to figure out what's going on at the TE position in Chicago.

Loveland was supposed to bring instant production to the offense. The Bears clearly had faith in him, taking him with the 10th overall selection. So far, they haven't used him like a first-rounder. Instead of stepping in and contributing right away, the rookie has struggled to see volume.

Fantasy managers are wondering what to do with the 21-yeaer-old after drafting him to be their potential TE1. Should we move on from the youngster this early in the season? Time to take a look at how Chicago has used Loveland so far and who to target on waivers if you decide to drop him.

Should I Drop Colston Loveland in Fantasy Football?

Week 2's contest with Detroit was lackluster. The Bears were defeated in a 52-21 beatdown, with Loveland failing to bring in his one target. The rookie is still trying to carve out a role, but his lack of involvement makes him a risky fantasy option.

Through two matchups, Loveland recorded just three targets, two catches, and 12 yards, failing to find the end zone. Usage is a concern, not just for Loveland but also for his counterpart, Cole Kmet.

The duo has combined for just nine targets, five catches, and 72 receiving yards, with Kmet managing the most work. But that work is hardly enough to post TE1 numbers in fantasy.

Snap counts show just how uninvolved the rookie has been. Kmet has been on the field for 121 snaps to Loveland's 74, solidifying Kmet as the primary TE on the Bears. Kmet has seen six targets, turning those into 60 yards. Nothing to write home about, but still better than what we've witnessed from Loveland.

At this point, you can't comfortably start Loveland. He's one to hold in dynasty, where you can afford to wait for him to develop. In redraft, the best move would be to drop the Michigan product. If you want to keep him stashed on your bench one more week, that's up to you, but most managers will want to move on from a player posting this little usage.

Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?

There are many better options at tight end sitting on waivers in most leagues. If Juwan Johnson is available in our league, he's worth taking a shot on. The New Orleans tight end is rostered in 51% of Sleeper leagues, so he might not be there.

Still, he's run 74 routes, the most among tight ends this season. Additionally, Johnson has seen 20 targets, also leading the position. The 29-year-old has averaged 15.6 PPR points per game this season while becoming one of Spencer Rattler's security blankets. He's a priority pickup at TE this week.

Another option that could be on waivers is Zach Ertz. The veteran is sitting at TE3 overall, rostered in 51% of Sleeper leagues. In Washington's Week 2 loss to the Packers, Ertz snagged six receptions on eight targets for 64 yards and a touchdown. Over two games, he's tallied nine catches for 90 yards and two scores. Steady target share is king.

I wanted to bring up Jake Ferguson, although he is available in just 35% of Sleeper leagues. If he's out there, scoop him up while you can. In Week 2's 40-37 overtime win against the Giants, Ferguson hauled in 9-of-12 targets for 78 yards.

Ferguson tied with CeeDee Lamb for the team lead in receptions. Dallas' high-powered offense is perfect for the Dak Prescott-to-Ferguson connection. The tight end should be rostered in every league.

If you're looking for a sneakier stash, let me re-introduce you to the Ravens' Isaiah Likely. He hasn't played this season while recovering from a foot injury, but positive news came out of practice on Friday (he was a limited participant). Getting in some practice suggests he's getting closer to a return.

Meanwhile, Mark Andrews has been quiet over the first two weeks of the season, bringing in just two catches for seven yards. Likely could have a big role if Andrews continues to struggle. Would he leapfrog Andrews? Not necessarily, but he's worth a speculative add if you can afford it.
