Ashton Jeanty Fantasy Football Rookie Profile

Ashton Jeanty - NFL Draft, Fantasy Football Rookie Rankings, Draft Sleepers

Phil Clark's fantasy football outlook for Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty in 2025. Where is Jeanty worth drafting in redraft and dynasty leagues?

Anticipation surrounding the impending arrival of each rookie class ignites enormous interest throughout the fantasy community as each offseason unfolds. This enthusiasm has been sustained during 2025 due to the immense talent and potential for prolonged value that exists with this year’s collection of prospects. This also incentivized many of you to immerse yourselves in research, analysis, and mock drafts during the months leading up to the recent NFL Draft.

Your focus has recently shifted toward the consumption of updated rankings and projections, and the formulation of draft plans, after draft capital was clarified and landing spots were determined during the recent draft. This year’s enticing assemblage of running backs has also emerged among the most intriguing position groups, due to the exceptional depth that exists within the 2025 rookie class.

Excitement surrounding the infusion of rookie backs into the fantasy landscape has also been fueled by the arrival of Ashton Jeanty, who was selected sixth overall by Las Vegas. Jeanty should provide a transformative presence to the Raiders as the explosive playmaker is now primed to excel as the foundation of the Las Vegas rushing attack. Jeanty can also become a critical asset for fantasy managers who embrace the opportunity to seize him during their drafts.

Ashton Jeanty’s Path To Prominence

Jeanty’s pathway to the NFL included his high school career, which was launched at Naples Middle School/High School in Gricignano di Aversa, Campania, Italy. He played quarterback and running back before transferring to Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas.

Jeanty remained involved with football, basketball, and track while rushing for 2,218 yards and 39 touchdowns during his tenure with the Rangers, including the 1,835 yards and 31 touchdowns he assembled during his senior year.

Jeanty also collected 96 receptions, while generating 1,626 yards and 17 touchdowns as a receiving weapon, and became a unanimous first-team selection at wide receiver in Texas District 5-5A D-I as a junior.

Jeanty emerged as a 4-star recruit and was ranked 29th among all running backs in his 2021 high school class. He ultimately signed with Boise State in December 2021, after receiving offers from 14 different schools.

Ashton Jeanty’s Prolific Collegiate Career

Jeanty’s numbers improved steadily during his three collegiate seasons. He played in 14 games as a freshman, while accumulating 821 rushing yards with his 156 attempts (5.3 yards per attempt). He also collected 14 of his 16 targets and registered 155 yards as a pass-catcher.

Jeanty started 10 contests as a sophomore in 2023, carried 220 times, accumulated 1,347 rushing yards, and averaged 6.1 yards per attempt. He also registered 96 first downs, 106 missed tackles forced, captured 43 of his 49 targets, assembled 569 receiving yards, and produced five receiving touchdowns.

Jeanty was also named as a first-team All-American by ESPN, College Football Network, and USA Today.

Season Attempts Att/Gm Yards Yards/Gm TDs
2022 156 11.1 821 58.6 7
2023 220 18.3 1347 112.3 14
2024 374 26.7 2601 185.8 29

Jeanty cemented his status as the preeminent running back from this year’s rookie class during 2024, as his consistent display of elite talent provided the perfect culmination to his collegiate career.

2024 Yards Yards/Gm Attempts Att/Gm TDs
Ashton Jeanty 2601 185.8 374 26.7 29
Cam Skattebo 1711 131.6 293 22.5 21
Omarion Hampton 1660 138.3 281 23.4 15
Bryson Daily 1659 127.6 310 23.8 32

Kaleb Johnson 1537 128.1 240 20 21
Tahj Brooks 1505 136.8 286 26 17
Dylan Sampson 1491 114.7 258 19.8 22

Jeanty operated with a mammoth 374 carries (26.7 per game) and erupted for the second-highest yardage total in FBS single-season history (2,601 yards/185.8 per game). He also surpassed 100 yards in all 14 of his matchups, eclipsed 200 yards six times, averaged 7.0 yards per attempt, and generated 29 touchdowns.

Jeanty also led all backs in carries of 15+ yards (36), missed tackles forced (152), and yards after contact (1,970), according to PFF.

Jeanty secured an assortment of honors following his exceptional 2024 season while capturing the Maxwell, Doak Walker, and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards. He was also named a unanimous All-American and finished second behind Travis Hunter for the Heisman Trophy.

Ashton Jeanty’s Integral Role In The Las Vegas Offense

Jeanty’s vision, acceleration, and explosiveness ignite his perpetual big-play ability. Those attributes also position him to provide the essential elixir for a Las Vegas offense that ranked dead last in rushing yards per game (79.8) in 2024.

The Raiders also finished 32nd in yards per attempt (3.6) and rushing first downs per game (4.6), and received the lowest rushing grade among all 32 teams (57.9) from PFF.

The Raiders failed to build a running back room that could adequately offset Josh Jacobs's offseason departure. Zamir White initially operated as the team's lead back. However, he averaged just 3.1 yards per attempt from Weeks 1-4, sustained a groin injury, and failed to regain his initial workload.

Alexander Mattison was temporarily elevated to lead back duties, but he was also inefficient. Mattison averaged 3.2 yards per attempt, failed to surpass 3.0 per attempt during seven matchups, and was 44th in rush yards over expected per attempt (-0.59).

Sincere McCormick was inserted into the Raiders’ backfield rotation in late November and performed more effectively than White and Mattison. McCormick rose to 10th overall in rushing yards (142) and ninth in yards after contact (114), while averaging 5.3 yards per attempt during Weeks 13-14.

According to Next Gen Stats, he was second among all backs in rush yards over expected per attempt (2.03) in Week 14. However, he suffered an ankle injury in Week 15 that abruptly ended his season.

Ameer Abdullah also accrued 72 touches/414 total yards from Weeks 12-18, while leading the Raiders’ backfield in rushing yards (229/38.2 per game). He also rose to sixth among all backs in receiving yards (185/30.8 per game) during that span.

Ashton Jeanty's Competition for Touches

The Las Vegas depth chart at running back has been reshaped as part of the Raiders’ massive offseason transformation. Mattison signed a one-year contract with Miami in March, and Abdullah is not included on the current roster.

Following Pete Carroll's arrival, the offense is being restructured with Chip Kelly spearheading the attack. There should be no concern regarding Carroll’s commitment to the team’s running game or Kelly’s ability to concoct an effective offense. Jeanty will also be presented with an unobstructed path toward an extensive workload.

33-year-old Raheem Mostert signed a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Raiders in March, following his release by Miami. Mostert’s migration to Las Vegas forged a reunion with Kelly, who was the 49ers’ head coach while Mostert was on San Francisco’s practice squad in 2016.

Mostert had followed Mike McDaniel from San Francisco to the Dolphins in 2022 and assembled career-best numbers during 2023. Mostert finished 10th among all backs in rushing yards (1,012/67.5 per game), accumulated a league high 18 rushing touchdowns, and was named to his first Pro Bowl.

However, Mostert’s role diminished considerably in 2024, as his snap share decreased by 25 percent (57/32).  He also averaged just 21.4 yards per game and was limited to only two touchdowns.

Mostert will remain involved in the Raiders’ backfield rotation, but will not present a threat to Jeanty’s lead back role. Jeanty will be a mainstay atop the revamped depth chart that will also contain McCormick, White, and Dylan Laube, who was relegated to one touch during his 2024 rookie season.

Ashton Jeanty's Fantasy Football Outlook

Jeanty’s outlook for 2025 and beyond has elicited tremendous excitement. His imminent entrance onto the NFL stage has been ushered by a wave of awareness surrounding his enticing attributes, the eye-opening plays that he has delivered on the field, and his accomplishments at Boise State.

Jeanty’s outstanding contact balance is unmatched by other members of his class and blends favorably with his aforementioned explosiveness, exceptional vision, and ability to stockpile yards after contact.

Carroll is a proven proponent of running the ball, and the Raiders made a significant investment in Jeanty, who became the first running back to be drafted inside the top six since 2018.

Jeanty appears destined to excel in a revitalized offense under Kelly, whose innovative play calling should maximize Jeanty’s abilities. This boosts Jeanty's prospects of becoming a prolific resource in his role as the Raiders’ workhorse back.

Jeanty's capabilities as a pass-catcher should not be dismissed, as he earned the highest receiving grade among all backs (91.6) from PFF during 2023. He also secured the second-highest grade among 2025 prospects at his position from 2023-2024.

Jeanty should provide fantasy managers with RB1 numbers that justify selecting him at the bottom of Round 1 in redraft leagues. He should also be targeted as the first overall pick in rookie drafts.
