5 Undervalued Hitters and Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds (Week 10): Players That Are Underowned

Five fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups, sleepers, and trade targets for Week 10 -- undervalued hitters outperforming their rostership and should be more widely owned.

One thing that will always be true about fantasy baseball is that your team will constantly need help from the waiver wire. Whether it's from injuries, poor performances, demotions, or role changes, the team we drafted is never the same one that helps propel us up the standings throughout the year.

Players like Rhys Hoskins, Jose Caballero, Sal Frelick, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and Ryan O'Hearn are all flying under the radar right now. While none are even 60% rostered, all of them deserve more of a look than fantasy managers are providing right now.

These five players below are all universally under-rostered and deserve more attention as we enter the dog days of summer. These might not be the most well-known names or the best hitters in fantasy baseball, but each can provide categorical help depending on team needs. Each player's roster percentage in Yahoo! formats is included, and stats are through June 2.

Rhys Hoskins, 1B, Milwaukee Brewers

47% rostered

One of the things that is easy to overlook in fantasy baseball is that attendance is part of the grade. So many players (Mike Trout and Byron Buxton immediately come to mind) miss inordinate amounts of time with injury, and it's hard to rely on them week to week. Then there are players like Rhys Hoskins.

Hoskins has missed one game since April 22 and has been a stalwart at the fifth or sixth spot in the Brewers lineup. All he is doing this season is hitting .264/.358/.451 with nine home runs, two stolen bases, and 35 RBI. He is the epitome of a solid utility or corner infield player for our rosters.

His hard-hit rate and barrel rate are both over his career averages this year. He has also knocked three percentage points off his strikeout rate and increased his walk rate. It's hard to find fault in the Philadelphia Phillies for letting Hoskins get away, but considering the state of Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos right now, I bet Philadelphia wishes it had a bat like this.

 

Jose Caballero, 2B/SS/3B/OF, Tampa Bay Rays

36% rostered

Jose Caballero, who is on pace to steal more than 50 bases this season, is barely rostered in one-third of fantasy leagues. Are fantasy managers that scared off by the limited power and RBI production he brings that they are willing to leave that amount of speed on waivers?

With Ha-Seong Kim on the IL and Taylor Walls riding the bench these days, Caballero has essentially taken over the shortstop role for Tampa Bay. He is playing six out of every seven days and has recently started to hit leadoff against left-handed pitchers.

But all this pales in comparison to his stolen bases. Caballero is on a 64-steal pace over a 162-game season. His .252 average won't hurt your team. And he is a non-zero in runs and RBI (19 and 20, respectively). With multi-position eligibility that can help anywhere, Caballero should be rostered everywhere.

 

Sal Frelick, OF, Milwaukee Brewers

26% rostered

The second Milwaukee Brewers player who makes this list is outfielder Sal Frelick, who frequently finds himself at fifth or sixth in the Milwaukee lineup. Frelick is the 35th-best fantasy hitter over the last seven days, thanks to a .393 batting average and a .536 slugging percentage.

In that time, Frelick had a home run, five runs, a steal, and an elite 14% strikeout rate. Career-highs in hard-hit rate, barrel rate, and average exit velocity support these numbers. At age 25, he is entering his prime and seeing career numbers across the board, including 11 stolen bases through one-third of the baseball season.

Only six players in baseball have at least a .290 batting average and double-digit steals through Wednesday night. Frelick is one of those six and has added four home runs and 21 RBI to those numbers. If Frelick continues to be an elite source of average and speed, and manages to throw in 10 or more home runs this year, he will be one of the biggest steals in 2025 drafts.

 

Lourdes Gurriel Jr., OF, Arizona Diamondbacks

50% rostered

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been a fantasy hitting goldmine this year with five players inside the top-75 players overall this season. But while Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, Josh Naylor, and Eugenio Suarez have gotten all the headlines, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. keeps producing steadily every single year.

Gurriel has spent 10 of the last 12 games in the third spot in the order for Arizona, and he is once again producing consistent, steady numbers. His .251 average and .433 slugging percentage have come with eight home runs, three steals, and 33 RBI. In addition, he also has a career-best 13.7% strikeout rate.

Still just 31 years old, history has shown us that Gurriel is going to hit 20-ish home runs and steal 6-8 bases while driving in 75 runs. That screams solid OF4 or OF5 to me and my fantasy rosters. Over the last seven days, he has proved he can be even better. He's hitting .333/.375/.400 in that span.

 

Ryan O'Hearn, 1B/OF, Baltimore Orioles

58% rostered

Only one thing has been consistent with the Baltimore Orioles' batting lineup this year, and that's their inconsistency. They currently have four regulars on the IL, Colton Cowser and Ramon Urias recently came off the IL, and Gunnar Henderson missed the first month of the season with an injury. Prospect Coby Mayo fell flat on his face in his first shot at MLB.

There is a case to be made that Ryan O'Hearn has been the most reliable player in the lineup (not necessarily the best, just the most consistent). He has not missed a game due to an injury and has sat out just once since April 29th. In his 50 games this year, he has been outstanding.

O'Hearn is currently hitting .335/.423/.538 with nine home runs and three steals. Yes, it is inflated by a high .366 batting average on balls in play (BABIP), but he has a 12% walk rate, a 15% strikeout rate (that's seven points below his career average), and is hitting more line drives than in any season except 2022.

Yes, first basemen and outfielders are usually the easiest players to find on the waiver wire in season, but O'Hearn is working on something special this year and should be at the top of the list. He is a priority add for any fantasy baseball team right now.
