Fantasy Football Dynasty Mock Draft: One-Man IDP Mock with Individual Defensive Players (2026)

Myles Garrett - Cleveland Browns DST, Fantasy Football Defense Rankings, D/ST Streamers, Waiver Wire, IDP Pickups

Chris' 2026 fantasy football dynasty mock draft for fantasy football IDP drafts with individual defensive players. His fantasy football draft strategies and tips.

Every summer, RotoBaller publishes my One-Man IDP Mock Draft with Multiple Personalities. This is a fantasy football IDP mock in which we use 12 unique personalities to reflect the tendencies and biases you are likely to see in an average fantasy league. This is meant to provide insights and values for players based on what you’re likely to see, not just a repeat of typical analyst drafts.

Below are the settings for this 2026 fantasy football IDP mock, including a detailed description of how each team will draft. Mind you, no team drafts exclusively towards their habits. Sometimes, a youth-based build will find an established star like Justin Jefferson too tempting to pass on, while older teams will layer in some youth. This is particularly true in dynasty leagues.

Also, please note that this mock will include all rookies who had declared for the NFL Draft as of January 8, 2026. It will also include rookies who appear to be virtual locks for this class (i.e., Kenyon Sadiq and Fernando Mendoza). However, it will not include Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss, and anyone else who poses a serious threat of returning to college.

Editor's Note: The FFPC Playoff Challenge is back with a massive $500,000 grand prize and $1.35 million total prize pool, paying down to 800th place. Here's the deal: no salary cap, no draft, no pickups, no subs. Choose 10 players, and as NFL teams get knocked out so will your players, so choose your team wisely. The 7,250 entries will sell out quickly, and registrations will close on Saturday January 10th at 4:30 pm ET . Don't wait - get your team now and end your fantasy football season with a shot at $500,000! Sign Up Now!

Outlining The Teams For The Mock Draft

For our purposes, the personalities/teams I will adopt this time are as follows….

  1. Futurama - This team is focused on building a young and talented base, willing to sacrifice winning now to add youth and improve their position in the 2027 rookie draft.
  2. Live for Today (LFT) - This team prioritizes win-now builds, elevating the value of older veterans and established players who can help win this coming year.
  3. Fear Factor - This team often drafts on fear, avoiding injury-plagued players and those whose profile is boom-or-bust.
  4. Zero RB 4 Life - The Zero RB strategy is not only viable in dynasty, but it is the norm. This team tends to avoid draft RBs early, especially in dynasty, where the position ages quickly.
  5. The Best Players Available - This team will traditionally draft the best player on their board, regardless of their age or profile.
  6. Half-Back 2 Da Future - This team utilizes a heavy running back roster, which usually means they are also in a win-now build.
  7. The Gamblers - This team is unafraid to draft disappointing players who could rebound, players coming off injury, and boom-or-bust assets.
  8. Average Joes - Average Joes will typically draft not to lose, leading them to have a roster mixed with old and young players who never hit their stride at the same time.
  9. Jack Reacher - Jack Reacher will reach our players… duh.
  10. The Trend Setters - This team likes to start the runs on positions like QB and TE, valuing the ability to “win positions” instead of chasing the top overall player available.
  11. Voodoo Veterans - Most dynasty drafts have at least two teams that try to win immediately with older players, so Voodoo joins LFT in that category for this mock.
  12. Baby Faces - There are also usually two or more teams in dynasty leagues that are obsessed with youth and are willing to tank early, so the Baby Faces join Futurama in that group here.

IDP Mock Draft Rules

With that covered, it's also important for you to understand that we will be mocking/drafting in the most common and shallow IDP formats here. The league rules we will be using are as follows….

  1. This non-Superflex league will start…
    1. 1 QB
    2. 2 RBs
    3. 3 WRs
    4. 1 TE
    5. 2 Flex
    6. 1 DL
    7. 1 LB
    8. 1 DB
    9. 1 Defensive Flex (DFLEX)
  2. Our IDP scoring for this mock consists of the following:
    1. 1 point per solo tackle
    2. ½-point for a half-tackle
    3. 3 points for sacks
    4. 2 points for safeties/PDs/FR, and
    5. 4- points for forced turnovers (i.e., INTs and FFs).
  3. This is not TE Premium scoring, but a traditional full-point PPR dynasty startup;

If you've made it through that explanation, we can finally get on to the fun stuff! So, without further ado, let's get to the picks.

First Rookies Are Taken:

When comparing this year’s rookie class to last year's, the top running backs in each class (Ashton Jeanty and Jeremiyah Love) carry similar value. While Jeanty was the better between-the-tackles runner at Boise State, Love is arguably more explosive and a better receiver.

Jeanty’s struggles should not drive Love’s value lower than pick #20.

At receiver, both Jordyn Tyson and Carnell Tate carry a higher draft grade for me than any receiver in last year’s class. Tyson is particularly intriguing, given that he lowered his drop rate from 8.5% last year to 1.6% this year. There is also a strong possibility that Tyson or Tate could be drafted into a high-volume offense with a better QB than what last year’s crop got.

Where this year’s rookie class lags behind 2025 is in its depth at RB and TE. Last year’s class was historically deep at both positions, while this year’s group is extremely top heavy. This class projects to have just one first-round talent at running back (Love) and at tight end (Sadiq), which is a stark contrast with last year’s group.

Non-Superflex Drives Early Picks:

A growing majority of dynasty leagues utilize the Superflex format, and it is the preferred setup of most analysts, including Yours Truly. However, non-Superflex is still the standard for many dynasty providers and websites, including Rotoballer, so it is the chosen format for this mock.

With that in mind, no quarterback deserves to be taken in the first two rounds of a non-Superflex startup draft. While Josh Allen provides an undoubted edge in most leagues, his playstyle always carries the risk of long-term or career-altering injury. Additionally, the quarterback position is deep in non-Superflex and the easiest offensive position to fill in this format.

Of course, were this a Superflex mock, you would have at least 11 quarterbacks drafted in the first two rounds. No position is impacted more by your league’s roster setup than quarterback.

Hunting for Answers:

There is no greater dynasty conundrum than Travis Hunter, who was a top-5 pick in rookie drafts and a top-50 pick in most startups last year. Despite his injury, he remains a transcendent talent on offense and an intriguingly talented cornerback prospect.

The real problem for Hunter is that the Jaguars added and extended Jakobi Meyers after Hunter went down. If the team re-signs Parker Washington and does not trade Brian Thomas Jr., the odds of Hunter committing exclusively to defense rise exponentially. Hunter is not the kind of corner you can rely on for reliable fantasy production if he only plays on defense.

With that said, Hunter’s fantasy value would skyrocket if Thomas were traded and Washington were to leave in free agency. That would be a sure sign that Hunter will remain a key cog on offense, and that his breakout game against the Rams could become the norm.

So… it’s hard to know where to take Hunter, even in IDP, without first seeing what BTJ and Washington do this offseason.

More Rookies Come off the Board:

This range could end up a bit high for rookies like Denzel Boston and Makai Lemon, as their landing spots will define a lot of their value. However, Boston is a dangerous possession receiver and a strong blocker who could interest a team like the 49ers in the Draft. If he replaces Jauan Jennings in that offense, his dynasty value could soar.

Meanwhile, Lemon and Tate are both better college prospects than any of the receivers in last year’s crop. Given the low-volume positions that both Emeka Egbuka and Mathew Golden landed in last year, it is hard to imagine a reason why Lemon and Tate would be drafted lower than either in this year’s dynasty drafts.

First Defender Taken:

Myles Garrett is the inevitable Defensive Player of the Year (again) and just set the NFL sack record. Thus, you should expect him to be the first defender taken in a vast majority of IDP drafts next year, be they redraft or dynasty format. He is truly the most dominant defender in the NFL.

With that said, the Best Players Available did not take Garrett because he was the best player available. In fact, in Standard IDP Scoring, you can afford to wait a lot longer to take your first defender. For dynasty purposes, no player has the kind of positional or fantasy edge that T.J. Watt or Shaq Leonard used to have.

However, Garrett does end up going here because the talent at all other positions started to even out by this point in the mock. There is no player with a clear long-term edge at their position, nor one so exciting that they must be taken ahead of another. Therefore, this is where you could see people start thinking about taking their favorite defender.

The Tight End Clump:

The top two tight ends in dynasty sit on a mountain, with Brock Bowers and Trey McBride miles ahead of their nearest competition. The second tier of dynasty tight ends is made up of Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland, and Harold Fannin Jr. After those three, there is a noteworthy break before another lump of players are caught together.

That third tier goes off the board quickly in this portion of the mock. Sam LaPorta, Tucker Kraft, and George Kittle go back-to-back-to-back in the sixth round, signifying their strong value in dynasty despite age, lack of upside, or injury keeping them from the first or second tier. However, one could argue that the better value pick happened a full round after those stars went.

Sadiq has the physical tools to be special, especially if he lands with the Chiefs as some of us expect. We have seen elite physical specimens disappoint at tight end (Kyle Pitts Sr.), but Sadiq should test off the charts and is tremendous with the ball in his hands, plus he is a capable blocker. In the right offense, the Duck could outperform all TEs in this tier as a rookie.

Potential Studs at DB:

Some thought it was an overreaction to put Nick Emmanwori atop my IDP Weekly Positional Rankings late in the season, but the rookie proved worthy of that move with a dominant close to the season.

Brian Branch remains one of the best young DBs in the league and should be one of the first ones selected in dynasty startups. However, Emmanwori is uniquely built for fantasy production, is in an ideal scheme/unit for fantasy production, and he’s just a rookie. He was DB11 in fantasy points per game this year, despite no touchdowns and an injury, and is our dynasty DB1.

Beware Inevitable Turnover:

While it is impossible to know the future of some NFL players, there are certain situations where the writing is on the wall. There are also situations where the range of outcomes is so wide, be it ascension to stardom or outright benching, that they are impossible to predict.

Woody Marks is a player whose writing is seemingly on the wall. The former Trojan was a passing-downs specialist coming out of USC who overperformed when forced into action this year. However, his efficiency as a runner and his touches were inconsistent late in the season, and Houston is a real threat to add significant competition at the position this offseason.

Conversely, one player with a myriad of outcomes is Jacory Croskey-Merritt. The man called “Bill” struggles as a blocker and receiver, which is why his usage was inconsistent this year. There is a risk that he will never improve in those areas or earn more touches. There is also the risk that Washington drafts Love and makes Bill a short-area specialist.

Don’t Forget Brooks:

Last year, I made a point of drafting Christian Watson late in every single dynasty startup mock or draft I participated in. He routinely went in the 15th round or later because he was coming off a serious knee injury and had been inconsistent before that injury. Thus, he could have been had at pick #160 last year, despite his ability to still take over in Green Bay.

Jonathon Brooks is a player who could experience a similar rebound in 2026. His series of serious knee injuries is concerning, and they’ve dropped him entirely off many radars, but the Texas alum will be 23 years old and nearly two years removed from knee surgery to start next year. He is also in a backfield where both Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle struggled late.

Defensive Run Begins:

In most non-Superflex IDP startups, especially those that include rookies or rookie draft picks, you should expect the real run on defenders to start in Round 13. This is when the depth at offensive positions truly starts to cede ground to defenders, especially when the Superflex setting doesn’t inflate the quarterback position.

Most teams will target their defensive backs and defensive linemen in this range, with personal preference influencing choices as the top defenders are gone and the groups start to even out.

Of the defenders taken in this range, Abdul Carter bears the greatest mention. There is no question he is drafted over safer options in this mock, but the upside will be too tantalizing for a team like the Baby Faces to resist. Remember, Carter generated the second-most pressures by a rookie since 2017, and his NFL Draft grade was higher than Micah Parsons for some.

Tricky Way to Tank:

A very viable dynasty-startup strategy is the one Futurama uses here. That is, you draft as many high upside youth as you can and then purposefully leave glaring holes on your roster that will suppress your MAXPF (aka Max Points Possible) at the end of the season. This can help you get an early pick in next year’s rookie draft and ascend quickly.

Most new dynasty leagues choose to reward rookie draft order based on reverse MAXPF. This means that the team that had the fewest possible points scored gets the first pick. Now, many think you can manipulate your MAXPF by stashing players on TAXI or Practice Squad, but apps like Sleeper actually count your TAXI points towards MAXPF, making it harder to truly tank.

The easiest way to tank in these leagues is to not draft any defenders at all, meaning you are assured to have multiple spots with zero points every week. Instead, you should load your bench with high-upside rookies and young players who give you an excuse not to drop them and add a defender instead.

DFLEX Equals Linebacker:

Most IDP leagues use a variation of the IDP Standard Scoring we are utilizing here, meaning tackles give you a high floor that is hard to ignore in your Defensive Flex (DFLEX) spot. In contrast, players who rely heavily on sacks and turnovers offer upside in the DFLEX but are impossible to trust on a week-to-week basis.

Given this scoring, you should almost always strive to fill your defensive flex positions with a linebacker. While this is a well-known strategy for most IDP veterans who play in these leagues, it still bears repeating for those new to the format or who wonder whether that rule varies in dynasty settings.

To clarify, this is a good rule to follow in dynasty and redrafts. Thus, every team that filled its DFLEX in this mock did so with an LB.
