Backup Quarterbacks To Buy In Superflex Dynasty Fantasy Football Leagues

Kirk Cousins - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Which backup quarterbacks should you buy ahead of the 2025 NFL season in dynasty fantasy football leagues? Dave Ventresca breaks down five QBs who are worth making moves for.

Superflex dynasty fantasy football leagues have become increasingly popular in recent years. Many gamers prefer them as they believe the importance of quarterbacks is on par with that of the NFL.

While that holds, this means it’s important to roster several backup quarterbacks as well. Signal-callers go down every year, and you don’t want to be stuck without one in a Superflex league. If that happens, you can just about kiss your chance at a title goodbye. Today, we will examine several backup quarterbacks you should roster in your Superflex dynasty leagues. The names below are great options to hold onto as they could emerge as quality options if the starter in front of them ever goes down.

Make sure you’re following RotoBaller on X and check out RotoBaller.com for all your fantasy football needs. Here are five backup quarterbacks you should acquire in Superflex dynasty fantasy football leagues.

Fantasy Football Backup Quarterbacks To Buy

Kirk Cousins - Atlanta Falcons

Cousins did not have a great 2024. Something felt off from the jump when the Falcons took Michael Penix Jr. eighth overall in the NFL Draft just weeks after signing Cousins to a massive contract. Things ultimately did not work out, and the 13-year veteran was benched in favor of the rookie.

Despite what they’re saying publicly, it’s incredibly unlikely that Cousins will remain with the team in 2025 given the size of his contract. With the lack of signal-callers in the incoming rookie class, there’s a strong chance that a quarterback-needy team will take a shot on Cousins. A team like the Indianapolis Colts might be a great fit.

Cousins is a great target for dynasty owners looking for a cheap solution at quarterback. He will likely get another shot as a starter. Maybe he just needed more time to adjust following his Achilles injury in 2023. It’s worth kicking the tires on a potential trade with the Cousins manager in your league.

Jameis Winston - Free Agent

The former first overall pick got a chance to start multiple games for the Cleveland Browns following a season-ending injury to Deshaun Watson. Cleveland fans were along for the ride as they got the full Jameis Winston experience.

Winston is what he is at this point in his career. However, has an outside chance to land a starting job this offseason. He might even serve as a bridge quarterback for a team that selects a rookie in the NFL Draft.

The 10-year veteran is a good option for Superflex dynasty owners looking for a cheap potential QB2. He could draw a few starts to start 2025 and buy owners time to find a more viable long-term QB2.

Malik Willis - Green Bay Packers

Willis performed well filling in for an injured Jordan Love in 2024. His best start was Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans. Willis threw for 202 yards, ran for 73 yards on the ground, and combined for two touchdowns.

He’s a good quarterback to roster as he’s proved he can provide sufficient numbers should Love miss time again. His rushing upside is a nice bonus and gives him QB1 upside in any given week. Willis won’t cost anything in a trade as he’s currently the QB52 in RotoBaller’s dynasty rankings.

Justin Fields - Free Agent

Fields is set to become a free agent this offseason. He was supplanted as Pittsburgh’s QB1 following the return of Russell Wilson. However, Fields posted several strong finishes for fantasy football purposes. He finished as a top-24 quarterback in all six of his starts, posted three QB1 finishes, and scored five rushing touchdowns.

Despite his continued shortcomings as a passer, Fields showed he still has plenty of upside for fantasy football. Few quarterbacks possess his ability as a rusher. That makes him one of the more coveted backups in dynasty circles.

It’s been rumored that he will draw a lot of interest on the open market this offseason. With the incoming rookie quarterback class seen as a weaker one, it looks like Fields has a good chance to open 2025 as a team’s starter.

If that’s the case, he will be a top-12 weekly option at quarterback. Gamers would be wise to act now to acquire him, as there’s a good chance his price will rise as we get further into the offseason.

Jake Browning - Cincinnati Bengals

Browning barely saw the field in 2024, and that was a good thing for Joe Burrow owners. However, Browning filled in admirably in 2023 when Burrow was out of action with a wrist injury.

He finished as a QB1 in five of his seven starts in 2023 and showed he can be a quality fill-in option for Superflex managers. Burrow has had a few injury issues during his young career, so it’s possible Browning could be called into action again down the road.

If you’re looking to load up on backup quarterbacks in case injuries strike, Browning is someone who should interest you.
