Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports - Updates for Bryce Harper, Julio Rodriguez, Kyle Schwarber, Carlos Correa, Jared Jones, Blake Snell, and more

Julio Rodriguez - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB DFS Picks, Betting Picks

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports for MLB hitters and pitchers as of 7/8/2024, including Bryce Harper, Julio Rodriguez, Kyle Schwarber, Carlos Correa, Jared Jones, Blake Snell, and more.

The MLB All-Star break is right around the corner, but there are still a handful of games to get through. There is no shortage of high-impact fantasy baseball studs dealing with bumps and bruises, so let's take a look at the top injured players including Bryce Harper, Julio Rodriguez, Kyle Schwarber, Carlos Correa, Jared Jones, Blake Snell, and more

This is the next edition of this year's fantasy baseball injury updates for hitters and pitchers as of July 8, 2024. Some players on this list impact fantasy baseball more than others, but with leagues of all shapes and sizes, all players should be monitored ahead of the start of the week.

Bryce Harper Injury Update

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said first baseman Bryce Harper (hamstring) had a good day running the bases. "So good that he's going to do it again on Sunday," said Thompson. Harper was placed on the injured list on June 27 with a low-grade hamstring strain.

The 31-year-old is eligible to come off the injured list on Tuesday and is on target to return to action before the All-Star break. Harper is having a terrific season in 2024, slashing .303/.399/.582 with 20 home runs, 58 RBI, 52 runs, and four stolen bases over 336 plate appearances. Kody Clemens will continue to handle first base duties while Harper is sidelined. Clemens is on the deep-league radar after hitting .235 (4-for-17) with two doubles over his last five games.

Julio Rodriguez Injury Update

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (quad) had clean results on his MRI, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Seattle manager Scott Servais expressed that the MRI showed "nothing out of the ordinary." He also added that Rodriguez could be available to pinch-hit on Sunday afternoon even though he was kept out of the starting nine. This is a great sign for the 23-year-old as he clearly avoided a significant injury. The former top prospect was removed from Saturday's match due to discomfort in his right quad.

The budding star has had a rough time finding consistency at the plate this season, as he currently sits with a modest .247/.295/.335 line with just eight long balls and 18 swiped bags. However, he does boast an above-average .275 xBA, which could suggest that Rodriguez is due for some positive regression in the second half of the summer. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the Seattle lineup before their game on Tuesday evening in San Diego, as Rodriguez could re-enter the starting lineup.

Kyle Schwarber Injury Update

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber (groin) is expected to be activated from the injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Schwarber ran the bases 100 percent on Saturday, completing the final step in his injury rehab, and is good to go for Tuesday.

The 31-year-old was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a mild left groin strain on June 28. Before landing on the IL, he slashed .250/.373/447 with 17 home runs, 49 RBI, and four stolen bases over 367 plate appearances in 2024. Schwarber will provide the Phillies and fantasy managers a power boost when he returns from the injured list early next week.

Carlos Correa Injury Update

Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (finger) was removed from Sunday's game after getting hit by a pitch on the hand. Luckily, the X-rays came back negative for any structural damage. That being said, it sounds like the 29-year-old slugger is dealing with a right-finger contusion.

After the game, Correa told reporters that he plans on playing during Monday's game. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Twins hold out Correa for a game as a precaution. For now, it sounds like Correa is going to play but fantasy managers will need to check back for another update.

Jared Jones Injury Update

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones (lat) is expected to miss "weeks, not days" with his grade two right lat strain, according to Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. General Manager Ben Cherington further expressed that he expects the 22-year-old to return to the mound at some point this season.

Earlier this week, the former second-round pick was shut down throwing for at least two weeks before the medical staff determines the next step in his rehab process. The right-hander left his most recent start on July 3 early due to strain in his right lat and was eventually placed on the 15-day injured list on July 4. Prior to the injury, the rookie was performing quite well with a 3.56 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 27:98 BB:K ratio across 91 innings. While Jones remains sidelined, Luiz Ortiz should continue to see time in the Pittsburgh rotation.

Blake Snell Injury Update

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) is expected to make his return to the mound on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The southpaw has been sidelined for over a month due to a groin strain. Before that, Snell had an ugly 9.64 ERA through six starts with San Francisco. He looked fantastic with nine strikeouts over five scoreless innings during his latest rehab start. Hopefully, the time off has helped Snell get back on track.

Yu Darvish Injury Update

San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish (groin, elbow) was placed on the restricted list Saturday. He is dealing with a personal matter and will be out for an indefinite period of time. The 37-year-old had been sidelined with a groin strain and right elbow inflammation since early June. He previously did light throwing, and the imaging on his right elbow came back clean.

The Padres moved Darvish from the injured list to the restricted list. Darvish owned a 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 53: 15 K: BB across 56 1/3 innings before landing on the IL. It's unclear how long Darvish will be away from the team, but fantasy managers should continue to stash him in all league formats.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) will play catch next week. He had been sidelined since June 16 with a rotator cuff strain. The 25-year-old was previously shut down from throwing and will begin a program next week. "It's a big step," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Yamamoto continues to make progress in his rehab and was described as pain-free on Wednesday. He owned a (6-2) record with a 2.92 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and an 84:17 K: BB before landing on the injured list. Barring any setbacks, Yamamoto appears to be on track to return in August. Fantasy managers should continue to stash the Dodgers rookie in all formats.

Brandon Pfaadt Injury Update

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt (ankle) is expected to make his next scheduled start in the rotation. The right-hander exited early during Saturday's outing after being hit in the left ankle by a comebacker. The D-Backs took the cautious approach and pulled Pfaadt from the contest.

It doesn't sound like anything serious has happened, so at worst he'll miss one start before the All-Star break. For now, Pfaadt is still scheduled to pitch, but fantasy managers should check back for another update.

Bryan Woo Injury Update

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo (hamstring) threw 45 pitches for High-A Everett on Saturday. Woo came away from the outing feeling good after allowing two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings with a hit, two walks, and two strikeouts. The next start for the rehabbing right-hander is likely to be with the Mariners in Anaheim later this week.

In eight starts for the Mariners this season, Woo is 3-1 with a 1.77 ERA and 0.69 WHIP. He is an elite pitcher when healthy but the trouble has been staying on the mound and putting together a consistent string of starts.

Matt McLain Injury Update

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Matt McLain (shoulder) was cleared to resume baseball activities, according to Reds manager David Bell. Bell spoke to the media and expressed that the 24-year-old hit specific benchmarks that were set by the team's medical staff and can now take the next steps in his lengthy recovery process.

McLain was moved to the 60-day injured list on March 28 after he underwent shoulder surgery. The former 17th overall pick should be expected to return to the diamond in August and could be a valuable asset as we approach the stretch run of the fantasy season. In his rookie season, McLain posted a stellar .290/.357/.507 slash line with 16 long balls and 14 stolen bases, which shows how he can be a potential five-category contributor when on the field.
