Boston Red Sox outfield prospect
Jhostynxon Garcia is starting in center field and will bat fifth in his major-league debut in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees and left-hander
Max Fried on Friday. It will not be an easy first assignment for Garcia. The 22-year-old Venezuelan was called up to the majors for the first time this week after hitting a combined .289/.363/.512 with an .875 OPS, 20 home runs, 73 RBI, 71 runs scored and six stolen bases in 99 games with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. It's unclear how much playing time he'll get in Beantown with the BoSox trying to make a run to get into the postseason over the final stretch of the year. Garcia should at least be rostered in dynasty/keeper formats, though, as the team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. "The Password" has some of the best raw power among right-handed prospects in the game.

Brandon Nimmo (neck) is absent from the team's starting lineup for Friday's divisional clash against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.
Tyrone Taylor will make another start in left field and will bat seventh versus Braves left-hander
Joey Wentz. Nimmo is missing a second straight game with neck stiffness and could wind up on the injured list with an injury that has plagued him in the past. He's hitting only .230 (14-for-61) with a homer, two doubles and eight RBI in 17 games in the month of August, but the 32-year-old left-handed hitter has reached the 20-homer mark already for the third straight season while slashing .254/.325/.436 with a .762 OPS, 68 RBI, 62 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 122 games. Taylor will see extended run in New York's outfield if Nimmo misses more time, but he's not as exciting for fantasy purposes.

Warming Bernabel (face) is out of the starting lineup again for Friday's series opener against the hosting Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
Orlando Arcia will make the start at first base and will hit eighth against Pirates right-hander
Braxton Ashcraft. Bernabel was scratched from Thursday's series finale at Coors Field against the Los Angeles Dodgers as a precaution after he was hit in the face by a throw during pre-game infield drills. It's not believed that the 23-year-old is dealing with any structural damage to his face, so we'd expect him to return to the starting nine before the end of the weekend series in the Steel City. The Dominican has impressed in his first taste of big-league pitching through 24 games and should continue to see regular playing time at first for Colorado to close out the year. Bernabel has hit .311/.340/.544 with four homers and 13 RBI in a small sample size.

Kyle Karros (back) is starting at third base and will hit fifth in Friday's series opener in Pittsburgh against the Pirates and right-hander
Braxton Ashcraft. Karros is returning to the starting nine after missing the last two games with back tightness. The 23-year-old son of former big-leaguer Eric Karros will be playing in only his 13th major-league game after recently being called up from the minors leagues. He has handled himself well in the early going and has a nice right-handed power stroke that will receive regular playing time down the stretch as the Rockies play out the string. So far in his first 44 MLB plate appearances, Karros has hit .270 with a home run, three doubles, five RBI, 10 runs scored and a 10:7 K:BB. Fantasy managers in NL-only leagues should be looking to get him back into their starting lineups.

Yordan Alvarez (hand) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored and a strikeout in his latest minor-league rehab game on Thursday with Double-A Corpus Christi. Alvarez has now gone 5-for-8 with three doubles, a stolen base and a walk in his first two rehab games on the farm and could rejoin the major-league squad this weekend for a series in Baltimore against the Orioles. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger has been out since May with a hand injury. It's been frustrating for fantasy managers that have been holding Alvarez all year, but he could help make a difference down the stretch if he continues to swing the bat like he is right now. The three-time Cuban slugger was hitting just .210 (21-for-100) with three homers at the time of his injury, but that could have been the result of him playing through his hand injury.

Tommy Edman (ankle) is running straight ahead without pain as he rehabs from a right-ankle sprain that landed him on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 4. The next step for Edman will be "doing some curves," according to manager Dave Roberts. The Dodgers are not going to rush him back to ensure that his ankle fully heals. The 30-year-old also dealt with an ankle injury earlier this year. Barring a setback, the expectation is that Edman will rejoin the big-league club for the final month of the regular season in September, which gives him little time to make noise in fantasy. The switch-hitting utility man is one home run shy of tying his previous career high, but he's been more useful in real life for the first-place Dodgers than in fantasy. Edman is slashing .228/.281/.396 with 12 long balls, 44 RBI, 43 runs and three steals in 86 games.

Gabriel Moreno (finger) is set to be activated from the 60-day injured list and return to the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Cincinnati Reds, according to manager Torey Lovullo. "I penciled [Gabriel Moreno] in the lineup for tonight," Lovullo said on MLB Network radio on SiriusXM. The D-backs will be taking on Reds right-hander
Zack Littell in the series opener in the desert. The Snakes are ready to bring the 25-year-old backstop back after he caught back-to-back games in the minors for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Moreno has been out since mid-June with a fractured finger, but he will return to starting duties behind the plate for Arizona the rest of the way. The Venezuelan will be returning to a .270/.324/.414 slash line with only five home runs, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored in 174 at-bats in 2025.

Minnesota Twins right-hander
Pablo Lopez (shoulder) made his first minor-league rehab start on Thursday night for Triple-A St. Paul and went 1 2/3 innings, allowing an earned run on four hits while walking one and striking out two for the loss against Triple-A Round Rock. Lopez is currently on the 60-day injured list and is working his way back from a Grade 2 teres major strain in his right shoulder. The 29-year-old will probably require at least a couple more rehab starts before he's a candidate to rejoin the Twins' starting rotation for the final month of the season in September. Lopez was 5-3 with a nice 2.82 ERA (3.02 FIP) and 1.07 WHIP with 61 punchouts and 14 walks in 60 2/3 innings over 11 starts before his injury. He's a must-roster player when he's healthy, but he's probably only going to have a handful of starts for fantasy managers down the stretch.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman writes that Atlanta Braves infielder
Nacho Alvarez Jr. will serve as the team's third baseman for the rest of the year now that
Austin Riley (abdomen) has been shut down for the season. Manager Brian Snitker suggested that Alvarez might be best utilized as a utility man in the future, but for now, he'll continue to see everyday playing time at the hot corner in what has been a lost 2025 for Atlanta. He has a weak .638 OPS at the plate over 91 plate appearances, but Alvarez has played great defense while filling in for Riley. The 22-year-old former fifth-rounder in 2022 out of Riverside City College is still searching for his first major-league home run after debuting in the big leagues in 2024 and is also slashing .247/.330/.309 with six RBI and 11 runs scored in 24 games played. Fantasy managers in the vast majority of leagues should continue to ignore him.

New York Yankees right-handed reliever
Fernando Cruz (oblique) is scheduled to make a four-out minor-league rehab appearance on Friday and then could be activated from the injured list for the series opener on Monday against the Washington Nationals, according to MLB.com. Cruz last pitched on Aug. 19 for Double-A Somerset. The 35-year-old veteran has been on the shelf since June 30 with a left-oblique strain but is nearing his return to the major-league bullpen. In his three rehab outings, Cruz has allowed four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk in just 2 1/3 innings pitched. He will most likely be eased back in by the Yankees when he returns, but Cruz could be handling high-leverage bullpen work by the end of the 2025 season. The Puerto Rican hurler had a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, two saves and 54 strikeouts in 33 innings for the Yanks before his oblique injury.
