Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Aaron Nola - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (9/1) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the September 2nd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 1st games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • Aaron Nola was masterful. 8 IP, 9 K. 27.1 K-BB. Louisiana Pride.
  • Starling Marte (three) provides a bonanza in appreciation of his new home.
  • He hit a tiny tater (two), but keep an eye on Jon Berti (38% rostered); the SB will come.
  • Three multi-hit games in five days w/ two long balls. Garrett Cooper only 3% rostered.
  • Skipping joyfully in the afternoon sun, carrying your groceries. Cool breeze. Then you trip over something and you stumble to the ground, your exquisite ERA/WHIP fall out of the bag and gets bruised by Sonny Gray’s 0.2, 6 ER, 3 BB.
  • Brad Miller provides two shots of freedom. He brought seven people home, himself included. Batting cleanup & only 21% rostered.
  • Kwang-hyun Kim continues to shine. 5 IP, 4 K. CHC next. 잘 했어요
  • Kris Bryant sneaks back in the house w/a couple of hits.
  • Jon Lester couldn’t get it done vs PIT. Reconsider your team choices, you 54%.
  • Kyle Schwarber feeling groovy. Six trots around the catwalk in eight days deserve a ReRun dance celebration. Do it, Kyle.
  • Ian Happ, calm down. People will start to notice you mashing taters (10) over here and raise your 2021 stock. Be cool.
  • Jacob Stallings, you’re batting fifth cause of your AVG. Eight men left behind doesn’t look good on the resume.
  • Patrick Corbin hasn’t been elite. Good, my 2021 draft plans could already use a discounted starter.
  • Bright lights. Big City. Bryce Harper adds a SB (five) to his collection for your second-round selection.
  • **Checks watch** Waiting on you. Andrew McCutchen is only 67% rostered. Uncle Larry has 5 HR, 3 SB, .338 AVG in last 15 games.
  • Masahiro Tanaka cruised to the Win. Playing in Camden Yards next. You’re gonna have to hide that 40% fly ball rate.
  • DJ LeMahieu (four) w/ two hurricane swings. LSU Love.
  • Zach Britton is back…for you handcuff fiends.
  • Duly noted, Mr. Ian Anderson. You will not be characterized as any other normal rookie. 6 IP, 2 ER, 8 K.
  • The roles reverse…a beautiful young lady sung…”You’re Once….Twice…Three times a hero…& I loooove yooouuuuu." Marcell Ozuna (11) stood gleaming with pride. “You know she’s not talking about you, right?” ~ Alex Dickerson (seven).
  • Andres Gimenez (one) announces his return from Covid with authority. SB upside. 3% rostered. Amed Rosario still around though.
  • Anthony Santander (11) & Renato Nunez (nine) bringing love back to the orange, black & white.
  • Robinson Cano has the record for most consecutive days mentioned on the Fantasy Soapbox. Three straight days w/ moonshots (seven). Only 53% rostered. What am I missing, people?
  • You need a cheap OF, but avoid Victor Reyes? 4-for-6 w/double, homer, .303 AVG. 9% rostered.
  • Don’t hold back, Christian Yelich (ninth HR). Unleash the maniac within for the last few weeks.
  • What is that bright beacon. Is it a lighthouse or the Bat Signal? No, that’s the Relevance Spotlight…shining on Zach Plesac (6 IP, 1 ER, 6 K). 72% rostered.
  • It’s dangerous when Francisco Lindor (six), Franmil Reyes (eight), and Jose Ramirez (eight) all decide to get on stage and flex their muscle at the same time.
  • In Elvis Andrus’ return, he launches one over the wall. As he rounded the bases, he seemed to be followed by theme music singing “Here I am…Rock you like a hurricane.”
  • Framber Valdez doesn’t get the W, but he gets more respect. 7 IP, 3 ER, 8 K.
  • Michael Pineda returns (6 IP, 2 ER, 4 K). Get your FAAB money ready.
  • 15% still holding onto Jairo Diaz. 0.2 IP, 7 ER. Poor souls.
  • Did we really expect more HR (four), than SB (three) from Garrett Hampson.
  • The whole team tested like it was Golden Corral which makes Brandon Crawford combo meal not as meaningful.
  • Alex Young survived the Dodgers (5 IP, 2 ER, 4 K) & hopefully gets the non-violent version of the Giants next.
  • Edwin Rios takes over 3B duties for Dodgers. Yes, please. Only 1% rostered. Move to top of watchlist.

  • It's Wednesday. Have a great one. Take time to look over your rosters and contemplate things that have gone right & gone wrong. Make notes to help your 2021 draft. But, don't give up on 2020 just yet. Best effort! Finish strong.
