Impact Fantasy Baseball Prospects Ready To Shine: Jasson Dominguez, Coby Mayo, Dylan Crews

Coby Mayo - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Rookies

Jake analyzes three top fantasy baseball prospects - Jasson Dominguez, Colby Mayo, Dylan Crews - who could make big impacts this season. These MLB prospects are potential waiver wire pick-ups or stashes.

August is now coming to an end, marking an exciting period for fantasy baseball enthusiasts.

As we head into Week 23 of the MLB season, many rookies have already made their debuts, while several other standout players are still waiting in the minor leagues. I have found three more players poised to make a big impact later this summer and into the fall.

These players offer tremendous upside and should be considered must-stashes in most fantasy leagues. Let’s dive into some of the most buzzworthy names in and around the minors!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Jasson Dominguez - OF, New York Yankees

Current Level: Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Availability: 33% on Yahoo!
2024 stats: 29 G, .304/.360/.426, 3 HRs, 15 RBI, 17 R, 10 SB

Jasson Dominguez is currently ranked as the 17th-best prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Nicknamed ‘the Martian” when he was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2019, Dominguez’s skills are out of this world!

Last September, Dominguez appeared in eight games with the New York Yankees. He slashed .258/.303/.677 with four HRs and seven RBI. He was also called up this season on August 18 as the team’s 27th man in a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers, where he went 0-4.

This season, the 21-year-old has played at three different levels in the minor leagues and excelled in them all. Since returning to Triple-A after his one-day callup, he has been hitting the ball extraordinarily well. In three games, he is 7-for-15 (.467) with five runs and a .933 OPS.

Although this hot streak comes from a very small sample size, the Yankees could turn to Dominguez soon as they look for an offensive boost down the stretch. Besides Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, many of the Yankees' expected stars (Anthony Volpe, Alex Verdugo, Gleyber Torres) have been struggling at the plate this season.

As the Yankees look to make the postseason and win the AL East division, it would surprise nobody if they called Dominguez to help deepen their lineup and strengthen their outfield. If/when he gets the call, he could serve as a valuable streamer for the rest of your fantasy season. Other than that, he is a must-stash in dynasty leagues.

Coby Mayo - 3B/1B, Baltimore Orioles

Current Level: Triple-A Norfolk
Availability: 43% on Yahoo!
2024 stats: 80 G, .299/.375/.583, 21 HRs, 63 RBI, 58 R, 4 SB

Coby Mayo currently ranks as the tenth-best prospect in baseball. The 22-year-old is a former fourth-round pick out of high school known for his tremendous power ability. Standing at 6’5 and 230 lbs, Mayo has had success crushing baseballs at pretty much every level he’s played at.

Mayo has spent the majority of 2024 in Triple-A, however, earlier in August, he was given a shot in the majors with the Baltimore Orioles. He struggled, to say the least. In seven games (17 at-bats), he slashed .059/.200/.059 with a 3:10 BB:K and no extra-base hits.

Mayo has since been sent down and will likely be given at least a week or two to work more on his plate discipline before getting another chance with the Orioles. His upside is still immensely high, though, as we all know he will start mashing in the majors, and it is just a matter of time.

As the Orioles are neck and neck with the Yankees for the AL East division lead (they are within one game of each other), they both may need to get creative in where they find a boost. If the opportunity presents itself (someone gets hurt or Mayo gets hot in Triple-A), I wouldn’t be surprised if Mayo gets called back up.

Mayo is a no-brainer stash in leagues that extend beyond this season. If you are in the playoff race for a season-long pool, though, I would consider adding Mayo to your team and using him as a streamer if/when he gets recalled to the show. His upside is very high.

Dylan Crews - OF, Washington Nationals

Level: Triple-A Rochester
Availability: 34% on Yahoo!
2024 stats: 49 G, .265/.340/.455, 8 HRs, 30 RBI, 34 R, 10 SB

Dylan Crews was the second overall pick in last year's draft and currently ranks as the third overall prospect in baseball. Crews is a rare, special talent, possessing a 60 grade in the hitting, power, and speed categories.

He has shown incredible maturity at every level of play so far, which has earned him quick promotions through the Washington Nationals organization. In fact, it was announced earlier on Friday that Crews is now set to be called up and make his major league debut on Monday (August 19)

This is great news for Nationals fans and Crews fantasy owners; however, it did not come out of nowhere. With how good Crews has been playing and how poor the Nationals major league team is, a call-up has seemed imminent for a couple of weeks now.

Crews is the type of talent who can make an impact right away. He could very quickly get hot and see everyday reps.  If he is available in your fantasy league, I suggest picking him up ASAP. He will be a threat to major league pitchers starting now and for years to come.
