Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said that he picked Nick Saban's brain this offseason regarding how the team could improve defensively. That came after the Crimson Tide's defense allowed 296.8 yards and 19.2 points per game a season ago, so improvement from those marks could make the Bama defense a top-tier unit for the coming season. Like many teams, the Alabama defense had to replace several defensive starters from last season. The Crimson Tide are a preferred destination though, so the new starters are all high-level talents, whether they are recruits or transfers. Alabama will get its season underway with a matchup against East Carolina on Saturday. Expect the Crimson Tide to control that contest, even with the Pirates coming off a 9-4 season. The East Carolina offense averaged 32.7 points per game last season, so it's a decent early test for the Bama defense, and could foreshadow what's to come the rest of the season.--Morgan Rode
