Matt's wide receiver (WR) fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 2 of 2025. His WR lineups advice for Week 2 fantasy football start/sit decisions.
With the opening week officially in the books, it is time to turn our attention to Week 2 of the 2025 NFL schedule and identify the matchups most likely to produce for fantasy managers. Given what we saw last week, the fantasy picture is starting to take shape.
That said, several landmines were planted to start the season. Nico Collins, Terry McLaurin, A.J. Brown, and Ja'Marr Chase were all held under six fantasy points, prompting many a fantasy manager to question their sanity.
Your RotoBaller Week 2 starts and sits at the wide receiver position, and we are here to provide a fantasy football wellness check.

Week 2 Starts - Fantasy Football Booms
Garrett Wilson - WR, New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills
Garrett Wilson proved he is a baller in what many, including myself, deemed a difficult matchup against the Steelers. In Wilson's first game with Justin Fields, the duo didn't care what the matchup was. Joey Porter Jr., Darius Slay Jr., or Jalen Ramsey. It did not matter.

Looking at Wilson's utilization, it's easy to see how Wilson was able to produce 22.5 fantasy points. Wilson had a 3.80 yards per route run rate while participating in 100% of the routes, earning 13.57 yards per reception, accounting for a 43% target share. Wilson caught seven of nine targets for 95 yards while providing 55% of the Jets' air yards, and an average depth of target of 9.6 yards.
New York also moved Wilson around, running him 37% of the snaps from the slot. Fields was not only looking for Wilson often, but he was looking in his direction early, as Wilson's first-read target share was 36.4%, a 5.0% improvement from his first-read target share from a season ago.
On Sunday night, the world witnessed the Buffalo Bills' secondary get absolutely lambasted by Zay Flowers, who gained 143 receiving yards on just seven receptions, thanks to the 5.3 yards of separation he averaged from the nearest defender throughout the contest. It's only one week, but Buffalo currently allows 42.60 fantasy points per game to the wide receiver position. Take advantage now before the Bills get their secondary sorted.
Jerry Jeudy - WR, Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
Like the Buffalo Bills, the Baltimore Ravens' secondary was suspect in that Week 1 contest. They allowed Bills receivers to produce 50.80 fantasy points thanks to the 20 receptions and 240 receiving yards they yielded.
Jerry Jeudy has to be watching the film and thinking he will eat this week. Jeudy's Week 1 performance was somewhat underwhelming considering the matchup, as he caught five of eight targets for 66 yards. Despite the low receiving total, some intriguing data suggest that the best is yet to come.
Against the Bengals, Jeudy accounted for 22.8% of the Browns' receiving percentage, earning a first-read target share of 28%, yards per target of 8.25, and a yards per reception mark of 13.20.
While Cedric Tillman has benefited the most since the Amari Cooper trade last season, Jeudy has still been productive, averaging 13.5 fantasy points per game, 75.6 receiving yards, and eight targets per contest in the five full games the Browns' top receivers have suited up for together. Last season against this Ravens secondary, Jeudy had 11 receptions on 21 targets, averaging 12.9 yards per reception.
Stefon Diggs - WR, New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins
Not only did the Miami secondary concede 33.40 fantasy points to Colts receivers last week, I just watched Michael Pittman Jr. haul in six receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown on his way to a 20.0 point fantasy outing against this same Dolphins defense last week, so fantasy managers should be looking to attack Miami's secondary like opposing quarterbacks and start everyone they have when they are facing that unit.
Only 41 percent of snaps for Stefon Diggs as the Patriots ease him back.

New England is slowly easing Diggs back as he recovers from an ACL injury. Last week against the Raiders, Diggs only played 41% of the snaps. Despite that limited action, Diggs still accounted for a 15.3% target share and a 19.9% team receiving market share, and was Drake Maye's first-read 20.7% of the time.
Expect those numbers to increase this week, as should his production. Against Las Vegas, Diggs averaged 9.5 yards per reception and grabbed six balls for 57 yards.
In PPR formats, Diggs has the potential to consistently be a weekly WR2 as Maye and Diggs' rapport continues to grow. Diggs may not be Maye's deep target of choice, but Diggs shows he can be a reliable outlet when he gets in trouble.
Week 2 Potential Fantasy Football Busts
Michael Pittman Jr. - WR, Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos
Again, congratulations to Pittman on a solid Week 1 performance. Your reward is a date with Patrick Surtain II and a spot on fantasy benches everywhere.
Last week, Denver held Calvin Ridley and the Tennessee Titans receivers to 48 receiving yards on seven receptions, limiting the fantasy output to 12.70 fantasy points. If you want to bet on Pittman having a breakout season, all the power to you, but the numbers suggest this isn't the week to put your faith in Pittman or the Colts' passing game.

Last season, the most receiving yards Surtain allowed while in coverage were 45 against the Bengals; against Tennessee, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year did not even allow a reception. If Surtain in coverage wasn't enough to caution fantasy managers, Denver's defense got to Cam Ward six times last week, picking up where they left off last season when they led the league with 64 sacks.
Chris Olave - WR, New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco gave up a big game to Jaxon Smith-Njigba last week as the Seahawks receiver finished with nine receptions for 124 receiving yards. However, no other Seahawks receiver would finish with more than 15 receiving yards, making Chris Olave a risky start at best this week, even after coming off a 13-target outing against the Cardinals in Week 1.
Fantasy football is a matchup-based game. There are receivers out there this week with better matchups than Olave, who's facing a secondary that allowed just 22.90 fantasy points last weekend. To make matters worse, Nick Bosa looks like he is again healthy and will be hunting for Spencer Rattler, who completed just 59% of his 46 passing attempts for 214 yards.
With all due respect to the Cardinals and their defense, there isn't a pass rusher on that defensive unit near the same level as a healthy Bosa.
Mike Evans - WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Houston Texans
If you are looking for Mike Evans, you won't find him again this week. It's still early, but Evans's streak of 11 consecutive 1000-yard seasons may be in jeopardy after the Falcons held him to 51 yards on five receptions and now head into Houston for Monday Night Football in a matchup that will feature Evans against one of the premier corners in today's game, Derek Stingley Jr.
In Sunday's contest, Stingley got slightly banged up and was clearly wincing throughout the game, but he returned and was part of why Davante Adams's production was limited. Since 2023, Stingley ranks first in passer rating allowed (50.8) and completion percentage allowed (48.3%) and has forced an incompletion or created an interception on 37 occasions.
In 2024, Stingley was targeted 95 times, finishing with 23 breakups and interceptions combined, allowing just a 45.3% completion rate.

Again, fantasy football is a numbers game and is about eliminating risks when possible. Evans is good enough to produce any given week, but this week's matchup is not in his favor.
