7 hours agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This comes a day after Rengifo suffered a wrist contusion during Sunday's contest. Rengifo mentioned to reporters afterwards that he believes he could play on Monday. However, the Angels are taking the cautious approach and giving him the night off. In his absence, Brandon Drury will cover second base and bat sixth in his return to action.Source: mlb.com
7 hours agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (hamstring) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The veteran slugger is back in the mix after missing nearly six weeks of action due to a strained hamstring. Drury was struggling with the bat before going down, so hopefully some time off will help him get back on track. He'll bat sixth and cover second base versus right-hander Chris Rodriguez on Monday.Source: mlb.com
7 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) said he threw off a mound during a bullpen session on Monday for the first time since having Tommy John surgery last June. deGrom threw around 15 pitches on Monday and felt good after throwing all fastballs. The 35-year-old veteran hurler will continue to build his arm up with more bullpen sessions before he's eventually allowed to start facing live hitters. Before returning, the Rangers will have deGrom go on a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment as well, so his return from the 60-day injured list is still a ways off. deGrom could be a candidate to return to Texas' starting rotation later in the second half of the season, and he'll be a wild card in terms of his fantasy value as he continues his recovery process from elbow reconstruction. Fantasy managers wouldn't be wise to expect much from a pitcher who has made only 17 starts the last two years combined.Source: MLB.com - Kennedi Landry
8 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will come off the 60-day injured list and make his next start with the Rangers in the majors. Manager Bruce Bochy didn't give an exact date for Scherzer's 2024 debut, but this weekend against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Scherzer allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out eight over 4 2/3 innings (79 pitches) in his final minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. Offseason back surgery kept the 39-year-old future Hall of Famer out for the start of the regular season, and a thumb injury pushed his rehab back even further. Scherzer could have a slight workload restriction in his first start back against an upstart Royals squad. He's no longer a fantasy ace, but when healthy, Scherzer still has the stuff to be a reliable midrange starter in fantasy in the right matchups.Source: RangersToday.com - Jeff Wilson

8 hours agoWith Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia (elbow) unavailable early this week due to an ulnar-nerve issue in his right arm, right-hander Chad Green will serve as the team's closer, according to manager John Schneider. Remember, Jordan Romano (elbow) is on the injured list for the second time this year. Garcia had to be pulled from his save chance on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians after experiencing right-elbow soreness. Nate Pearson finished Sunday's contest, but it will be Green coming in for any save chances while Garcia is out this week. If Garcia isn't recovered by Friday, he could join Romano on the injured list, so the 33-year-old Green should be a priority waiver-wire pickup for fantasy managers in need of saves. Green has been hurt himself this year, but he's also been solid when healthy with a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in just 15 1/3 relief innings in 2024.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Ben Nicholson-Smith
8 hours agoAn MRI exam on Sunday on Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia (elbow) showed some ulna nerve symptoms in his right elbow but no structural damage, which manager John Schneider described as "great news." The Blue Jays are still determining the next steps on Garcia, and he could still land on the injured list. Pitcher Brandon Eisert is with the team on their taxi squad just in case. With Jordan Romano (elbow) on the injured list for the second time this year, Garcia has filled in as Toronto's primary closer, but now that role could fall to Chad Green for however long Garcia is out. The Jays aren't too concerned with Garcia's injury, and fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day this week. But if Garcia hasn't recovered by Friday, he could join Romano on the IL. If Green is available on your league's waiver wire, pick him up.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi
8 hours agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes (thumb) underwent surgery to fix the UCL in his left thumb last Wednesday. There is no timeline on his return yet, but he's expected to return later this season. Lukes suffered a left-thumb injury while playing for Triple-A Buffalo. The 29-year-old made a strong bid for the regular season roster during spring training, and if the Blue Jays needed an outfielder at any point, he would have been the guy. Lukes was up with the big-league squad for only one game this year and has spent the rest of his time at Buffalo, going 57-for-171 (.333) with six home runs, 27 RBI and four stolen bases in 44 games. The former seventh-rounder by the Cleveland Guardians in 2015 out of Sacramento State debuted in the big leagues last year and hit just .192 (5-for-26) with two RBI in 29 games played.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi

9 hours agoAn MRI exam on Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll's injured left side on Monday morning didn't reveal significant damage, and he will join the team ahead of their series opener on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals, according to a source. Carroll described a "pull feeling" on his left side while making a throw in the seventh inning of Sunday's game. It's possible Carroll will be back in the starting lineup on Tuesday. Last year's National League Rookie of the Year was hitting just .184 with a .547 OPS in his first 52 games in 2024, but he's posted a .299/.397/.403 slash line with five doubles, a triple and three stolen bases in 78 plate appearances over his last 18 games. Fantasy managers have to be happy that Carroll appears to have avoided a serious injury, but make sure to check back on Tuesday to see if he's back in there.Source: The Arizona Republic - Nick Piecoro
9 hours agoNew York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow) will come off the 60-day injured list to make his 2024 season debut on Wednesday versus the visiting Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium. The long-awaited wait for Yankees fans and fantasy managers is over, and the 33-year-old reigning American League Cy Young winner should be thrown into all starting lineups this week despite the tough first matchup. Cole was shut down in spring training with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow and hasn't pitched all year, but he's a high-end fantasy ace when healthy and looked dominant on his minor-league rehab assignment, giving up just one earned run while fanning 19 batters and walking none over 12 1/3 innings over three starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Cole will have more risk baked into his first outing and could be limited from a pitch-count perspective.Source: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch
10 hours agoSt. Louis Cardinals catcher Pedro Pages will start behind the plate and bat eighth in the team's series opener against the Miami Marlins on Monday. The 25-year-old catcher has now started five straight games for the Cardinals, which has moved Ivan Herrera to the designated hitter role or on the bench. Pages is coming off the best three-game stretch of his career after launching two home runs over the weekend against the Chicago Cubs. His strong series has surely earned him more playing time. But with Willson Contreras (forearm) likely beginning a rehab assignment on Tuesday, the young catcher does not have much long-term fantasy appeal.Source: MLB.com
10 hours agoSt. Louis Cardinals second baseman Nolan Gorman is not in the team's lineup on Monday against the Miami Marlins. With the Marlins starting a left-hander in Braxton Garrett, Gorman will take a seat, and Jose Fermin will start at second base in his place. The left-handed slugger is batting just .186 at the plate with four home runs, 12 RBI, and 27 strikeouts in 77 plate appearances against southpaw pitching this year. With a right-hander on the mound for Miami in the second game of this series, the 24-year-old should be back in the lineup on Tuesday.Source: MLB.com
