Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (4/23) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the April 24th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the April 23rd games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • J.D. Martinez revenge flight continues. Seventh victim.
  • Our NL HR champ rolling in the deep. Nick Castellanos grooves #7.
  • Cron-an The Barbarian back for sequel w/ first appearance from T-Story.
  • Javier Baez conducts his sixth pain train. Yes, he has 41% Chase and 26% SwingStrike rate. But, is there anyone else in the 5 HR/5 SB club? Nope!
  • Back up, Kolten Wong put some extra mustard on that exit velo (98 mph). First hot dog of year. Nathan's Famous makes it a combo meal for him with second SB.
  • Jake Marisnick enjoying the cool breeze at Wrigley. He took his kite out for the first time.
  • MLB-leading fourth win goes to...Steven Matz. Mets lose again.
  • Willson Contreras catches up to Wilson Ramos. Sixth HR. If only they could hold on for one more day. (Thank you, Wilson Phillips).
  • Cole Irvin continues to impress. 5.1 IP, 1 ER, 6 K. **Psst, it was the O's**  I don't care!!
  • Someone catch Keston Hiura, he's falling to .111 AVG.
  • The pain goes numb after 7 ER, I heard. (Josh Lindblom is numb at 3.2 IP, 8 ER)
  • Ramon Laureano (two) dropping souvenirs 428 ft.
  • Can Mike Minor get some respect? 5.2 IP, 2 ER, 9 K. PIT next. YES!!!
  • If I move, you move. Carlos Santana (1st SB) follows Whit Merrifield's (sixth SB) orders. Just like that.
  • Andrew Benintendi is hitting .219, but that first HR feels so good.
  • Thank you, Robbie Grossman for your second long-distance deposit into the Championship Fund.
  • Raise your hand if you avoided Yadier Molina because he was old(er). Haha, suckers. Fifth HR.
  • Randal Grichuk with third HR & .310AVG. And you wanted to make him a platoon player. HA!
  • Miracle Mets! Miracle that they gave run support to Jacob deGrom & that it was provided by Brandon Nimmo's first deep ventures.
  • Can we get an MVP count check on Marcus Semien. Five? (yes, I'm avoiding that .208 thing)
  • Three HR in four games. Xander Bogaerts says "More pitching, please."
  • Aww, Fernando Tatis Jr.'s shoulder is hurting him...YAGA!!! Two slices of 'I'm Back'. (four)
  • Austin Riley has narrowed his focus. 2nd shot on target.
  • Dylan Moore's fourth sneaky abracadabra doesn't make the .107 AVG disappear.
  • Randy Watson providing theme music for Randy Arozarena's 445-ft sensation. Sexual Chocolate!
  • Tyler Glasnow's love & pain. 6 IP, 5 ER, 10 K.
  • Giancarlo Stanton (five) w/two shots of Booker's bourbon.
  • Huascar Ynoa bounced back at D'backs expense. 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 K
  • Fore! Yuli Gurriel (three) drove one 380 feet.
  • No Sonny Gray, that is not the way. 3.2 IP, 5 ER.
  • J.A. Happ puts his palm on PIT's face to help himself get up. 7 IP, 3 K.
  • Hot Damn! Yermin Mercedes was 4-for-4. .429 AVG.
  • Alex Wood spinning magic tricks. 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 K.
  • Adolis Garcia (five) w/ two shots of Tequila.

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • Good mornin'. Yeah, sleep in if you need to. But first, read through the ramblings a couple of times. You might need a few chuckles in your life. Then you can roll over & get another power nap to help you power through the day. Have a great Saturday.
