Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

sixto sanchez fantasy baseball rankings MLB prospects

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (9/2) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the September 3rd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on September 2nd games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Triston McKenzie (2-0) stays svelte so he can eat opposing offenses for dinner. (6 IP, 6 K).
  • The youth is changing the game. Sixto Sanchez does the Mound Meringue towards 7 IP, 2 ER, 5 K.
  • They see you struggling to get over the wall. Michael Conforto (sixth HR/five RBI) & Pete Alonso (seventh HR) come to hoist you on their broad shoulders.
  • I lose Aroldis Chapman for three more days? I feel like we hardly get to spend any time together.
  • J.T. Realmuto has more SB in one night (two) than some players have in the entire 2020 season. Juan Soto, Mike Trout, Javier Baez, George Springer, Austin Meadows, Victor Robles, Yoan Moncada, Ramon Laureano.
  • Tell me a Story, papa. “There once was a boy name Trevor. He didn’t get as much fame as the rest of the boys, but he was strong (nine HR), fast (nine SB), could gather a bunch of resources (51 R+RBI). He was way more than AVG (.306).” Moral: Be a champ always, regardless of how you stack up to others.
  • Just so people would shut up about his lack of speed, Charlie Blackmon (one) grabs a quick bag.
  • Reminiscent of Sep 2019, Garrett Hampson has four HR in the last eight games.
  • David Peterson to the bullpen (ridiculous), but gets a win (four) in his cozy new abode.
  • Seriously?! Todd Frazier? You have Andres Gimenez. Play what you have. Work towards the future.
  • Hold your breath. Renato Nunez has some bumps & bruises.
  • Santander! Stop that 'There can be only one’ BS. You leave seven men on base again. There can be only none.
  • People don’t read this…Otherwise, Brad Miller (still batting cleanup; fifth HR; .464 wOBA) would be better than 28% rostered. Oh, small leagues. I see.
  • Old man Yadier Molina carrying a swift stick. Second long ball.
  • Tyler Mahle (7 IP, 3 ER, 3 K) shouldn’t have a spot in the rotation? Cockamamie.
  • I admit. I was wrong. I was hoping that Danny Jansen would be better.
  • Joe Musgrove is back. Velo at 93. Curve & slider both generated 28% Whiff rate. Be careful if you jump back on this train.
  • Colin Moran is an example of why you trade high. 4 HR, .333 AVG in the first week. Currently 7 HR, .264 AVG.
  • The sixth HR is nice, Javier Baez. The 19.3% SwingStrike rate is not.
  • Yes, I’ll admit two wrongs in one post. I was hesitant about Zack Wheeler coming into the year. I sit here humble. (4-0, 3.22 FIP)
  • You didn’t think Charlie Morton was going deep into the game, did you? 2 IP, 4 K is better than a blowup.
  • For all the excitement, I’m surprised Clint Frazier is only at four taters. I like the 14% walk rate, but the .367 BABIP is like a little leprechaun on his shoulder.
  • Mike Brosseau (five) laughs last. Doubles his enjoyment.
  • Adam Duvall (eight) goes wild with triple stacks of high-arching pancakes. Only 2% got to enjoy them though.
  • We have to mention all quality performances, even Jackie Bradley Jr.’s trip to Subway for an Italian sandwich (add marinara sauce) Combo Meal!!! (three HR/one SB).
  • Marcell Ozuna continues to shine. 12th souvenir, 115.6 mph max exit velo and .417 wOBA. Enjoy.
  • Listen, just because Adrian Houser allows 5 ER, doesn’t mean you have to as well, Spencer Turnbull.
  • Christian Yelich chose the walks (four) to show off his wheels (four). 27.8 ft/sec sprint speed is good for two more.
  • Tell me, Keston Hiura. What is causing your 10% drop in Contact (56.3%) that doesn’t affect your ability to hit homers (nine).
  • Watch out. Francisco Lindor has two tater, two steals, and a .382 AVG in the last two weeks.
  • The standout at the catcher spot is none other than Isiah Kiner-Falefa. 2 HR, 6 SB, .284 AVG.
  • It’s not the ace we wanted, but the performance we needed. 6 IP, 1 ER, 8 K from Berrios.
  • Josh Donaldson is back. Keep your First Aid kit ready.
  • Nelson Cruz pauses to allow Miguel Sano (eight) and Eddie Rosario (eight) to catch up.
  • Very nice, Walker Buehler. Keep it in cruise control (5 IP, 6 K) to give me that discount in 2021. Hell, let Zac Gallen (7 IP, 7 K) pass you.
  • Old Nashville Cowboy Mookie Betts (12) gives the crowd another rousing tour around the music city.
  • Nelson Cruz, Fernando Tatis Jr, and Luke Voit all hunkered around the campfire on top of the 'HR Mountain'. They weren’t surprised when Mike Trout sauntered up & sat down.
  • Endgame
  • It is Thursday & the week is moving along quickly. Unfortunately, the baseball season is also moving towards a close. Yes, it was a short season filled with Covid, PPD games, & more. Don't take it for granted. Enjoy the game we love to the fullest.
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
