Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/28) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the August 29th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 28th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Alright boys & girls, drink your chocolate milk & do your squats. Pete Alonso (six) w/ 421-foot sign of a strong young man.
  • A’s get Tommy La Stella? That’s nice. Somebody needs to know how to avoid the Ks.
  • Down by the beach, you catch a drifting bottle w/ a message inside. You wipe the sand off, pull out the paper. All it says is, “Check your Dynasty leagues. ~ Clint Frazier."
  • Only four away from career-high in HR, what has Dominic Smith (seven) done differently? 15.5% Barrel rate (top 8% of MLB).
  • Somebody bake Chad Green some cookies. He was kind enough to donate three homers to the Mets cause.
  • I’ve been hoodwinked. The Yankees really do hate Mike Tauchman.
  • Gary Sanchez doesn’t have to decide on breakfast’s menu too often. He loves Special K (41.1%) cereal.
  • Why draft old dudes? Let’s look at Robinson Cano. 24 R+RBI, PT, .378 AVG.
  • Stop dancing in the streets. You’ll jinx Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (fifth HR). What dance was that anyway?! Clogging?
  • “I don’t want Randal Grichuk. He’s a Chase Monster (34.7%) w/ a bad AVG.” Nine HR, .311 AVG later. (Yes, that is what we call a beneficial snapshot in time.)
  • Name that player. He is second in MLB in HR (12). He has 45 95+ mph hits. Leads his Blue Jays team in long balls. Yes, Teoscar Hernandez. Nope, I have him on zero teams. (Insert shame emoji here)
  • Renato Nunez w/ seventh request for the spotlight. Don’t worry, you’ll be in one of my upcoming articles.
  • Keep the water away…he’s on FIRE!!! Andrew McCutchen w/ 2 HR, 2 SB, .344 AVG in the last seven games.
  • And for the big-money contract, you are rewarded with your first tater of the season. Thanks, Scott Kingery.
  • Listen, Zack Wheeler. We love what you’re doing. It’s not you, it’s me. I just need more than a 10.7% K-BB.
  • Dear Adalberto Mondesi & Jeff McNeil. I just received this bulletin. I know you’re doing the best you can, but Ender Inciarte just hit a HR. No pressure.
  • This is why Tyler Mahle should be in the rotation. 6.2 IP, 2 ER, 11 K. What?! Wade Miley to the IL? So, Mahle’s back? YES!
  • Swingin’ & Winkin’. 3 HR, .375 AVG (.382 BABIP) for Jesse Winker in the last seven games. What? Only 58% rostered?! Fix it!
  • Wake him up, before you go go. Eugenio Suarez w/ four top-of-the-billboard hits. George Michael would be proud.
  • Mondesi, if you leave eight men on base, you don’t score runs. You don’t score runs, you don’t win. I know, I know. The Piñata party was fun (three K).
  • 25% of the time, Luis Robert enjoys a good “Swing-and-a miss.” The other 75% mixes in some long-distance contact. (eighth).
  • Make a wish, Billy. It’s a shooting star. It was actually a Jorge Soler flare (nine), but his wish is still good.
  • The apologists will hide in the shadows, Whit. Just keep the balance & you’ll do fine. Whit Merrifield w/ six HR/six SB.
  • BOOM! Eloy Jimenez (11) rattles the stadium with that 452-foot shock.
  • Brilliant. Sixto Sanchez w/ 7 IP, 10 K.
  • Slide to the left. Slide to the right. Criss cross. Let me see you clap your hands as Juan Soto cha chas around the paths for the sinth time.
  • Scherzer gonna do, what Max Scherzer gonna do, baby. 6 IP, 1 ER, 11 K.
  • Jonathan Hernandez racking up wins (four) in relief.
  • Turner with a SB!!! Celebrate! Whoa…Justin Turner, not Trea. Now there’s only one Isiah Kiner-Falefa if you want to dance for his thievery (six).
  • “Excellent.” Corbin Burnes roasted the Pirates (6 IP, 10 K).
  • Two reminders that Jedd Gyorko (five) still plays? No, no. Don’t you dare do it.
  • I see. You were expecting something similar to Sixto Sanchez’ line. Nope, Triston McKenzie just gives an underwhelming 4 IP, 2 ER, 3 K. FAAB money is FAAB money.
  • Listen, Jobu. Franmil Reyes (7) hits the ball far & he hit it all the time (.307 AVG)
  • Musical artist ‘Kyle Freeland’ is just dropping all kinds of hits. He collaborated with Manny Machado, Wil Myers, Eric Hosmer, & Ty France.
  • **Rubs eyes once, twice…thrice** Charlie Blackmon leaves six men on base?! How can this be?
  • The new Zach Davies thrives while tapping the Rockies. Five sins. More research is needed.
  • Mike Trout gives souvenirs (11) to inanimate objects. What else is new?
  • Disregard all AVG talk. Enjoy Shohei Ohtani’s fourth swift SB. Thank you, Aaron Nola for your support. LSU Pride!
  • It’s true. The All-American boy, Zac Gallen, gets his first win.

  • Endgame
  • Happy Saturday everyone. I've said it before, but it needs to be said again. Take a moment today...TODAY...to reach out to family & friends (old & new) just to say hi. Reconnect. We always think there is more time. We are usually wrong. Make someone smile.
