NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 10/29/24

We have finally made it! The 2024-2024 NHL Season has BEGUN!! Can Florida and Edmonton repeat in the Stanley Cup Finals? Will Utah rise to the occasion, playing in front of a new crowd and a new barn?

Tonight, we have a seven-game slate and one team playing on a back-to-back, San Jose. There will be a few different ways to build lineups, with plenty of ‘value’ at the center and defense positions.

The currently live top-three highest implied team totals are Los Angeles with 3.8, New York Islanders with 3.8, and Boston with 3.6. I will do my best to guide you through this seven-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Lukas Dostal - DK $7.1K || FD $6.8K

Opponent - New York Islanders

Value in Shots Per Goal Per 60 will be hard to come by in this strange slate. However, Lukas Dostal of the Anaheim Ducks has an opportunity to make value. The Islanders are the third-best in Shots Per Goal Per 60, the sixth-worst in goals Per 60, and just outside the top ten in Shots Per 60. The Ducks are in the top ten in Goals Against Per 60 but the bottom five in Shots Against Per 60.

In Dostal’s last five starts, he has a 2-2-1 record with a 2.6 Goals Against Average, a 0.925 Save Percentage, and a 1.37 Goals Saved Above Expected Per 60. The Ducks goalie is expected to make the second-most saves on the slate, 33, and he is projected to concede two goals. He will make and exceed value if he can produce a similar stat line.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Kuemper (DK $8.4K || FD $8.1K)
  • Binnington (DK $7.3K || FD $7.2K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Evgeni Malkin - DK $7.2K || FD $6.6K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

Veteran Evgeni Malkin blew up in the embarrassing 4-3 loss in Vancouver on Saturday with one goal, two assists, two shots, and two blocked shots. In his last five outings, he has one goal, two assists, five shots, and four blocked shots. This comes after a big run of form in the four previous games.

 Malkin will get the chance to regain form in a new-look Penguins team, though. The center is now moving to the outside as a winger on teammate and center Sidney Crosby’s line (DK $7.8K || FD $8K). With less ownership on defense as a center, Malkin will have the chance to generate more offense. Emotions will be high, with ex-teammate Marc-Andre Fleury making his final start in Pittsburgh and the Penguins falling down the standings. Expect the center and now wing to produce two points and four shots.

Matty Beniers - DK $4.2K || FD $5.3K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

When the Montreal Canadiens are on the slate, they get targeted. It is as simple as that. This slate is no different, with Matty Beniers of the Seattle Kraken making the list. In the five most recent games, Beniers has two goals, two assists, nine shots, and six blocked shots. In Per 60 metrics, the Montreal Canadiens are the third-worst in Shots Against, the second-worst in Shots Against and High Danger Chances Against, and the worst in Scoring Chances Against.

The Canadiens are projected to concede four goals in their matchup against Seattle, tied for the worst on the slate. For under $4.5K on DraftKings, Beniers will have every opportunity to exceed value.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Nelson (DK $6.5K || FD $7.1K)
  • Danault (DK $4.1K || FD $5.5K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Kevin Fiala - DK $7K || FD $7K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

Kevin Fiala will have something to prove in this matchup at SAP Center. After recording one assist and one shot in the 3-2 win over Utah, the winger was benched for repeated ‘bad’ penalties. In his last five appearances, he has one goal, one assist, 14 shots, and one blocked shot.

The San Jose Sharks, in Per 60 stats against, are in the bottom five in Scoring Chances, Shots, and High-Danger Chances, and they are the seventh-worst in Goals. As one of the more ‘consistent’ players in the Kings’ lineup and a known shooter, expect Fiala to reach and surpass the five or more shots bonus on DraftKings in this matchup. Especially considering he is projected to see San Jose’s putrid first and second lines.

Jared McCann - DK $6.1K || FD $6.9K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

Despite the constant carousel in Seattle, Jared McCann has maintained a strong run of form, netting three goals, five assists, ten shots, and three blocked shots in his most recent five outings. His substantial 0.500 Shooting Percentage is not maintainable, but his prime matchup is the perfect storm to keep it going.

As Seattle's main shooter, McCann is expected to surpass the five shots or more bonus on DraftKings due to Montreal’s woeful defense. As aforementioned, Montreal is in the bottom five, if not the bottom three, in all meaningful metrics against. Sitting under $6.5K on DraftKings, in a prime matchup, with solid form, McCann could plead for ‘Play of the Slate’.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Boldy (DK $8.1K || FD $7.8K)
  • Zegras (DK $4.3K || FD $5.2K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Brandt Clarke - DK $4.6K || FD $6.2K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

Youngster Brandt Clarke could end up being a ‘lock’ in most lineups on the slate due to his prime matchup at SAP Center. However, in his most recent performance against the Sharks, he had one assist and two shots, leading to a lackluster performance compared to expectations. In his last five outings, he has one goal, two assists, 11 shots, and 11 blocked shots.

His shooting volume is concerning, especially considering how many ‘friendly’ matchups he has gone through in the mentioned timeframe. As the second pairing defenseman and quarterback to the Kings’ top power-play, Clarke is expected to surpass value quickly.

Ryker Evans - DK $3K || FD $5.1K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

Ryker Evans strongly makes a case as a ‘lock’ on the slate. The young defenseman is filling in for injured teammate Vince Dunn. Evans has one goal, one assist, nine shots, and eight blocked shots. Seattle’s defense is nothing to write home about, and neither is Montreal’s offense. This could lead to a lack of blocked shots for Evans. He could also take more shots than usual though, due to his matchup.

Evans is on the top pairing and the quarterback for Seattle’s second power-play. In what is expected to be a blowout at Bell Centre, Evans is projected to record one point, take three shots, and block one shot.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Zellweger (DK $3.1K || FD $4.2K)
  • Broberg (DK $3K || FD $5.1K)
