The Los Angeles Angels could call up minor-league left-hander Mitch Farris to start Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. The Angels need starting help after optioning Jack Kochanowicz to Triple-A and placing Tyler Anderson (oblique) on the 15-day injured list. That may lead them to Farris, who does not rank among MLB Pipeline's top 30 Angels prospects. The 24-year-old has thrown 116 innings in Double-A ball this season and recorded a 4.27 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP and 142:55 K:BB. Those aren't great numbers, though Farris has been far better in his past four starts, having put up a 1.52 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 23 2/3 frames. That stellar production could earn Farris a promotion in the next couple of days.--Connor ByrneSource: Jeff Fletcher - Orange County Register

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel (wrist) has not resumed baseball activities since he went on the 10-day injured list with a left-wrist contusion on Aug. 24, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Schanuel now looks likely to miss more than 10 days, and it's unclear when he'll be able to come back. The former 11th overall pick (2023) has hit .266/.355/.383 with 10 homers, 49 RBI, 61 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 535 plate appearances this season. The Angels have been going with a Niko Kavadas-Oswald Peraza tandem at first base in Schanuel's absence.--Connor ByrneSource: Jeff Fletcher - Orange County Register

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler (back) is making progress in his recovery from inflammation in his lower back. Soler has begun increasing activities in the field, including shagging fly balls, while taking batting practice on "several" occasions and hitting off a high-velocity machine, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Soler has been on the 10-day injured list since July 24, but the team is hopeful that he'll return sometime in September. The 33-year-old slugger has played in 82 games and slumped to a .215/.293/.387 line with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 315 plate appearances.--Connor ByrneSource: Jeff Fletcher - Orange County Register

The Baltimore Orioles are promoting outfield prospect Enrique Bradfield Jr. from Double-A Chesapeake to Triple-A Norfolk. The 17th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Bradfield dealt with a hamstring strain that limited him to 50 games with Chesapeake this year. The 23-year-old speedster still posted impressive production with the Baysox, slashing .269/.393/.386 with two homers, 14 RBI, 32 runs scored, and 26 stolen bases. He also tallied almost as many walks (32) as strikeouts (37) in that 250-plate appearance span. Bradfield ranks fourth among O's prospects at MLB Pipeline and could put his elite speed on display in the majors sometime next year.--Connor ByrneSource: MiLB Central

Athletics right-hander Luis Severino (oblique) will come off the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. It'll be the first start since Aug. 5 for Severino, who has missed just under a month with a strained left oblique. In his first season with the A's, the 31-year-old has gone 6-11 with a disappointing 4.82 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 103:44 K:BB across 24 starts and 136 1/3 innings. Severino has been markedly better on the road (3.17 ERA) than at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, where he has pitched to an awful 6.34 ERA. Fortunately for Severino, he'll be in St. Louis on Tuesday and facing a mediocre offense that ranks 16th in the majors in runs and 23rd in OPS.--Connor ByrneSource: Jason Burke - A's on SI

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman (shin, foot) exited a 13-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday after fouling a ball off his left shin/foot in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chapman finished his plate appearance with a walk before the Giants subbed in Casey Schmitt to pinch run for him. It seems that it was a precautionary move on the Giants' part, though, as Chapman said after the game that he's doing fine and expects to play on Monday against the Colorado Rockies. After going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks on Sunday, Chapman is hitting .231/.341/.430 with 18 homers, 50 RBI, 60 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 437 plate appearances. He played in 19 games in August and went just 13-for-64 (.203) with two HRs, eight RBI, 11 runs, two steals, and 13 walks.--Connor ByrneSource: Shayna Rubin - The San Francisco Chronicle

The Kansas City Royals announced that they will activate outfielder Jac Caglianone (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The 22-year-old rookie missed the last few days of July and all of August with a strained left hamstring. Caglianone was the sixth pick in the 2024 draft, and his promotion to the majors in early June came with great fanfare. However, he could only muster a .147/.205/.280 slash line with five home runs and 10 RBI in 41 games and 161 plate appearances before he went on the IL. While Caglianone has slashed a video game-like .337/.408/.617 with 20 homers and 72 RBI across 304 trips to the plate at the Triple-A level this season, it's unclear how much playing time he'll receive in his return to the Royals. Fellow left-handed hitter Mike Yastrzemski, acquired from the San Francisco Giants after Caglianone landed on the shelf, has taken over as the team's primary right fielder and has thrived.--Connor ByrneSource: Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals announced that they intend to promote catcher Carter Jensen from Triple-A Omaha on Monday. The 22-year-old Kansas City native was a third-round pick in 2021 who now ranks as MLB Pipeline's 69th-best prospect and the No. 2 farmhand in the Royals' system. Jensen opened 2025 in Double-A ball before earning a promotion to Omaha, where his phenomenal production led to his first call to the majors. In 43 games at the Triple-A level this year, Jensen slashed .288/.404/.647 with 14 home runs and 39 RBI in 184 plate appearances. While Jensen may be the long-term successor to franchise icon Salvador Perez, the latter is still the team's starter behind the plate. Jensen should overtake light-hitting journeyman Luke Maile as the Royals' No. 2 backstop and pick up playing time when Perez is out of the lineup or at DH.--Connor ByrneSource: Kansas City Royals

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells (elbow) is scheduled to come off the 60-day injured list and start against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Wells hasn't taken the mound in the majors since April 12, 2024, as he was shut down with elbow troubles and had to have internal-brace surgery on his UCL. Almost 15 months after going under the knife in June 2024, he'll come back to finish out the season as part of a six-man Orioles rotation. The 31-year-old made five Triple-A rehab starts this summer and notched a terrific 2.70 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP and 23:6 K:BB in 23 1/3 innings. Wells hasn't been as successful in the majors, where he has totaled 95 appearances (46 starts) and recorded a decent 4.06 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP, 8.28 K/9, and 2.35 BB/9 over 294 2/3 frames.--Connor ByrneSource: MLB.com

Chicago Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. In a somewhat odd move, the Cubs have decided to send down Caissie after barely using him. The top prospect slashed .208/.240/.375 with one home run and four RBI in 11 games with the Cubs. In a corresponding move, outfielder Kevin Alcantara has been recalled to take his spot on the active roster. This season, Alcantara is slashing .266/.349/.470 with 17 home runs, 69 RBI, and 10 steals in 102 games with Triple-A Iowa. The expectation is that Alcantara will take over Caissie's role as a fourth outfielder in Chicago. There's unlikely to be fantasy value here with the Cubs outfield currently healthy.--Andy WebbSource: Jesse Rogers

Houston Astros starting pitcher Luis Garcia (elbow) will be activated from the 60-day injured list on Monday. Garcia is set to make his season debut during the series finale against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. This will be the first time that Garcia has taken an MLB mound since May of 2023. The right-hander has been sidelined since then while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He posted a 3.30 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 38/7 K/BB ratio across 30 innings in the minors this season. Garcia allowed one run over six innings during his final rehab start on Tuesday. He threw 75 pitches during that outing, so he figures to have a normal workload. It has been a long time since Garcia has pitched on an MLB mound. That being said, fantasy managers can't quite be sure what they're going to get from Garcia. He figures to be worth rostering in deep leagues at the minimum.--Andy WebbSource: Brian McTaggart

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Jarlin Susana (triceps) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's start with Double-A Harrisburg. Susana was pulled after 1.2 innings due to right triceps soreness. Before exiting, Susana allowed three earned runs on three hits, while walking three batters, and recording three strikeouts. The 21-year-old prospect owns a 3.51 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 95/34 K/BB ratio across 14 starts between Double-A and Single-A this season. It's unclear at the moment if Susana will be forced to go on the injured list. He's unlikely to be a September call-up this season, but could make an impact in Washington in 2026.--Andy WebbSource: Mark Zuckerman

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer (back) was forced to make an early exit from Sunday's outing against the Milwaukee Brewers. Scherzer was pulled after four innings due to upper back tightness, according to manager John Schneider. Before exiting, Scherzer tossed four innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out one batter. This is now back-to-back starts that Scherzer has allowed four runs. Before that, Scherzer was pitching extremely well over his previous four outings. Possibly, Scherzer has been trying to pitch through the back issue. It's unclear at the moment if Scherzer will require a trip to the injured list. For now, Scherzer is day-to-day and expected to make his next start against the New York Yankees.--Andy WebbSource: Hazel Mae

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed right-hander Walker Buehler on Sunday. Well, it didn't take Buehler long to find a new home after being released by the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Buehler has struggled this season with a 5.45 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and a 84/55 K/BB ratio across 23 games (22 starts) with the Red Sox. This seems like a low-risk move for the Phillies to get another arm for the postseason. The 31-year-old had solid postseason success during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies rotation is currently full, so Buehler figures to operate out of the bullpen. A good depth move for the Phillies, but the change of scenery probably won't help Buehler's fantasy value.--Andy WebbSource: Jeff Passan
