Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

juan soto fantasy baseball rankings outfield MLB injury news

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/31) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the September 1st edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 31st games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Too Legit To Quit! Juan Soto (11) submits two more overqualified applications for top-three pick in 2021.
  • YES! Paul Goldschmidt is a five-category guy yet again. Stolen base. (Scratch ’N’ Sniff edition) Scratch & put nose ***HERE*** for exotic essence of sarcasm.
  • Sweet-swinging Trea Turner. Seventh HR to express defiance of amateur SB stat.
  • You have an open CI spot? You might need a little Garrett Cooper in your life. 'Conquerer of Covid’ Cooper has 2 HR, 6 RBI, .280 AVG in 25 PA. 3% rostered.
  • "I may not always make contact (56.3%), but when I do, I prefer the home run.” **Cut** Was Keston Hiura (eight) just doing a 'Most Interesting Man In The World’ voice?
  • Gerrit Cole just remembered his bike lock combo (5447). 5 IP, 4 ER, 4 BB, 7 K.
  • Why am I the blue guy in the corner? Cause I’m still holding my breath that you’ll add Robinson Cano (50% rostered). 6 HR, 30 R+RBI, .375 AVG.
  • Back to reality. Jacob deGrom w/6 IP, 1 ER, 9 K (no-win Mets).
  • Ha, you wish that was the price of gas again. 0.88 is Daniel Vogelbach’s batting average. For some reason 1% are smarter than the rest of us.
  • Marco Gonzales w/ 9 IP, 1 ER, 8 K. No, it was the Angels. Thanks for asking. He gets TEX next.
  • It’s never too late, but Justin Upton (fourth HR), it’s almost time to head back to Hampton Roads.
  • Am I the only one that can’t figure out Dakota Hudson? This guy shouldn’t be this good. 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 K.
  • Long John Silver! I don’t know why you’d choose that place, but it’s your day, Paul DeJong. Combo Meal!
  • Eugenio Suarez will be your Father Figure. 6 HR, 23 R+RBI, .259 AVG in last 15 games. 9% gave up on him. Check your leagues.
  • Anthony DeSclafani, I can’t do it anymore. I’m out.
  • Calibrating. 35-degree LA; 104 exit velo. Yes, Rhys Hoskins, you may fire when ready for 6th HR, 27th R+RBI, & .319 AVG in the last two weeks.
  • Well done, young man. Spencer Howard picks up first Major League win.
  • Tyler Glasnow beat Gerrit Cole. STOP IT! Stop saying that. It makes no @$#%@& sense. Now you got my blood pressure up. Glasnow was impressive, though. Six IP and nine strikeouts.
  • “But” Don’t. Don’t say it!. “SS is deep & I have no room.” Agh! Willy Adames is DYNOMITE! Find a way. 21% rostered is shenanigans.
  • Holy smokes. 113 mph exit velocity. No more mustard necessary, Franmil Reyes.
  • Luke Voit has homered in five different spots in the order. Plug-n-Play.
  • “Hey guys, what are you doing over there? No, it’s ok, I’m in the six-win club too.” ~ Max Fried. Yu Darvish smiles. Shane Bieber’s shoulder is cold as ice as his bullpen prevented him from leaving this group.
  • It’s not hazing if you earn it. Bobby Dalbec, with shoulders slumped in defeat, puts on the Golden Sombrero after four miserable attempts at the piñata.
  • Erik Gonzalez, you have earned a higher ranking on my research list. Third HR. 111 mph exit velo.
  • "But it wasn’t my fault.” Taylor Rogers gives up three runs (ok, not earned).
  • Eloy Jimenez & Danny Mendick, go put your nose in the corner & think about why y’all left 15 men on base. Don’t move.
  • Miguel Sano, proud of his 408-foot souvenir, could only watch in awe as Luis Robert clobbered one 449 feet. He tips his hat. Respect.
  • Jake Cave, you were supposed to do something with this opportunity. Are you ready to go back to Hampton Roads too?
